Job Title: Quality TechnicianJob Description
This Quality Technician position supports a fast-paced food manufacturing facility by ensuring products consistently meet strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Working on 1st shift with a rotating schedule, you will monitor production processes, perform laboratory testing, and verify compliance with food safety programs such as HACCP and GMPs. You will split your time between laboratory testing and on-the-floor line checks, playing a key role in maintaining product integrity and supporting continuous improvement in the quality process.
Responsibilities
Perform routine quality checks on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure they meet established specifications.
Monitor and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation procedures, and food safety protocols throughout the production area.
Conduct environmental and product sampling for microbiological and chemical testing according to established procedures.
Verify compliance with HACCP plans, FDA, USDA, and other applicable regulatory and customer requirements.
Maintain, operate, and calibrate quality assurance equipment, including scales, thermometers, pH meters, and related instruments.
Document and report non-conformances, assist in root cause analysis, and support the implementation and verification of corrective actions.
Collaborate closely with production and sanitation teams to ensure quality standards are consistently understood, communicated, and upheld.
Assist in internal audits and support external inspections by preparing records, answering questions, and demonstrating compliance practices.
Maintain accurate and organized records of inspections, test results, and quality metrics in both paper and electronic formats.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and quality-related training programs to enhance processes and maintain best practices.
Retrieve product samples from production lines and conduct line checks to verify real-time product quality and process control.
Follow cGMP and quality control procedures to support robust food safety and quality systems.
Essential Skills
1-2 years of experience in food manufacturing or quality assurance.
Knowledge of HACCP principles, GMPs, and food safety regulations.
Experience applying Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) in a production environment.
Understanding of quality control concepts and food safety systems within a food manufacturing setting.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately perform and document inspections and tests.
Solid organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, records, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic data entry for recording test results and quality metrics.
Comfort working in cold, wet, or noisy environments and standing for extended periods during the shift.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate or bachelor's degree in food science, biology, or a related field is preferred.
Experience working within HACCP-based food safety systems and supporting regulatory inspections is beneficial.
Familiarity with laboratory testing procedures for microbiological and chemical analysis in food products.
Strong communication skills to clearly convey findings, non-conformances, and recommendations to cross-functional teams.
Motivation to learn and grow within the quality function, with a willingness to participate in ongoing training.
Interest in working with premium chocolate and ingredient products in a specialized food manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
This is a 1st shift position with training typically scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some flexibility across standard 1st shift hours. The schedule follows a rotating pattern of two days on and two days off Monday through Thursday, with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday worked every other week, resulting in approximately 48 hours one week and 36 hours the next. About half of each shift is spent in the laboratory testing products, while the other half involves retrieving samples from the production floor and performing line checks. The facility operates as a fast-paced food manufacturing environment that produces high-quality chocolate and other ingredients for well-known products. Conditions can be cold, wet, or noisy, and the role requires standing for extended periods and moving between lab and production areas. Team members follow GMP and cGMP requirements, including appropriate food manufacturing attire and adherence to sanitation and hygiene standards, to maintain a safe and compliant production environment.
