School Bus Driver

Community Unit School District 308 (SD308) is seeking qualified candidates to become school bus drivers for the district. Start/end times vary based on routes, with split shifts generally between 5:45am-9:15am and 1:45pm-5:15pm. Compensation is $24.00 per hour (rate of pay could be adjusted up to compensate for experience). Monthly attendance bonus and longevity bonus are also available. The hourly rate of pay is inclusive of the mandatory 4.5% retirement contribution to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

Paid time off includes: paid holidays, paid sick days (employee shall be granted ten (10) sick days per year), paid personal days (employee shall be granted two (2) personal days per year), and paid bereavement days (employee shall be granted two (2) bereavement days per year).

This position is represented by the Oswego Transportation Association (OTA).

Qualifications: 21 years of age (or older) with high school diploma or equivalent. Skills necessary to operate a school bus safely, communicate effectively, follow determined schedules. In a timely manner, handle emergency situations, evaluations and administer first aid. Ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug, alcohol, background and TB testing. Exceptional driving record. Knowledge of or ability to learn safety.

Performance responsibilities include: operating the school bus safely while managing and caring for students, learning and adapting to each student's medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs, serving as a role model demonstrating positive attitude and self-control, protecting the confidentiality of student records and information, and being responsible to secure students who use child safety restraint systems.
