As part of a collaborative nursing and multidisciplinary team, the nurse ensures student medical needs are safely and effectively met through implementation of individualized health care plans, medication administration, ongoing health monitoring, and accurate documentation. In this role, the nurse supports student health, safety, and access to educational programming throughout the school day by responding to a wide range of medical needs, providing direct care, and coordinating closely with special education staff, therapists, and administrators to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes student participation and well-being. Responsibilities Implement and monitor student Individualized Health Care Plan s (IHCP) Administer medications and perform nursing procedures in accordance with state regulations and district policies Monitor, assess, and document student health status and communicate changes to appropriate staff and families as required Support activities of daily living (ADLs), which may include feeding, toileting, hygiene, positioning, and mobility Respond to medical emergencies and implement emergency care plans as needed Collaborate with teachers, therapists, administrators, and support staff to promote student safety and participation Maintain accurate health records and ensure compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policies Provide guidance and support to school staff regarding student medical needs Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment, including proper use of medical and protective equipment At times, may accompany students during transportation to and from the program, including riding the school bus, if required, to provide medical monitoring, support, and ensure student health and safety during transit. At times, may be required to support student needs and provide staff training to other programs within the ISD. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) required Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Valid state nursing license in good standing Experience working with children with special needs and/or medically fragile students preferred BLS/CPR certification preferred (or ability to obtain upon hire required) Required Skills and Abilities Strong clinical assessment and nursing skills Ability to work independently and make sound medical judgments in a school setting Excellent communication and documentation skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries Patience, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm in emergency situations Reliable attendance and punctuality Ability to work effectively on a team Physical Requirements Ability to lift, transfer, and position students, with or without mechanical assistance (typically up to 50 pounds) Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods Ability to perform nursing tasks requiring manual dexterity and physical stamina Compensation and Details Compensation: $68,800-$86,000 commensurate with experience Schedule: Full-Time, Full Year, 190 days per year.
