Position Overview The Lake Forest College Biology Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, starting August 2027. The role includes teaching introductory biology course BIOL 120 (Organismal Biology) with laboratory, upper‑level Plant Biology BIOL 384 with laboratory, and the opportunity to develop additional courses, including in the First Year Studies Program. Responsibilities Teach BIOL 120 (organismal biology) and BIOL 384 (plant biology), including laboratories, six semester hours each year Develop and teach additional courses as requested by the department and college Design and lead an undergraduate‑led research program, produce peer‑reviewed publications, and pursue external funding Deliver high‑quality instruction, incorporating inquiry‑based learning and scientific literature from first‑year courses Engage in faculty review and community activities and support the liberal arts mission of Lake Forest College Qualifications Postdoctoral training in biology or a related field Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching beyond traditional TA experience Strong enthusiasm for a liberal arts education and commitment to inclusive pedagogy Ability to mentor a diverse student body, including students of color and international students Evidence of scholarly productivity or potential for it (peer‑review publications, grant experience) Good communication and teamwork skills within the biology and interdisciplinary community EEO Statement Lake Forest College is committed to diversity and encourages applicants whose backgrounds and experiences enhance the teaching and mentoring of all students.
