BasePoint is looking for a compassionate and motivated Patient Benefits Coordinator to join our Patient Access team!

What You’ll Do

As a Patient Benefits Coordinator, you will play a key role in creating an environment where patients and families feel supported, safe, and inspired to grow. You will:

• Phone Communication Skills: Demonstrates excellent phone skills by handling inquiry calls, explaining assessment processes, scheduling appointments, and ensuring successful call closure.
• Crisis Management: Understands and states the procedure for managing crisis calls and identifies when to activate EMS services, ensuring patient safety during high-risk situations.
• Documenting Calls: Accurately documents all inquiry calls in the CRM, capturing all relevant information in accordance with standards and company policies.
• Referral to Community Resources: Makes appropriate referrals to community resources when assessments are not scheduled, ensuring patients receive alternative services as needed.
• Handling Medical and Psychiatric Emergencies: States the working definition and procedure for managing medical and psychiatric emergencies according to company guidelines and policies.
• Triage of Emergencies: Identifies and triages emergent patients, prioritizing care based on severity and need for immediate intervention.
• Assessing Special Needs: Identifies the need for additional screening related to substance use, nutrition, functional needs, and abuse for children/adolescents, and conducts relevant screenings.
• Documenting Special Needs: Ensures any special spiritual or cultural needs are documented in patient records to provide comprehensive care.
• Community Resource Knowledge: Demonstrates working knowledge of community mental health and substance use programs, referring patients to appropriate services as needed.
• Professional Interaction with Patients/Families: Interacts with patients and families in a professional manner, providing clear explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
• Telephone Etiquette: Answers the telephone in a polite and professional manner, effectively communicating information to the appropriate staff or family members.
• Reporting Incidents: Reports “near misses” and any errors or accidents promptly, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
• Safety Awareness: Attends all required safety programs and demonstrates an understanding of job-specific safety responsibilities.
• Quality Initiatives: Actively participates in quality projects and supports ongoing quality initiatives within the department.
• Verification of Benefits: Obtains accurate verification of benefits for incoming patients following provided templates and ensuring all required information is completed.
• Calculating Patient Responsibility: Accurately calculates total patient responsibility based on benefits, contracted payor rates, and benchmarks, providing estimates as needed.
• Coordination of Benefits (COBs): Coordinates benefits with insurance carriers as needed prior to patient admission, ensuring that all necessary details are obtained for billing purposes.
• PCP Referrals: Obtains Primary Care Physician (PCP) referrals, as necessary, prior to admission to ensure patients meet eligibility requirements for services.
• Supporting Billing and Utilization Review Teams: Collaborates with the billing and utilization review teams to address any financial or verification-related inquiries, ensuring that financial documentation is accurate and processed in a timely manner.
• Other Assigned Duties: Performs other duties as assigned by the Patient Access Manager or other leadership.
• Compliance in Marketing: Provides accurate and truthful information about the company’s services and ensures full compliance with federal and state laws
