Swim Instructor

The Rookery's Swim Instructor will educate participants on proper technique, promote swimmer safety and cover all material required in a swim level. They will communicate regularly with participants and their parents to ensure they are aware of progress and complete progress reports. Must be able to adapt teaching approaches to participants' age, experience, and ability so they can meet course objectives. Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations. Enjoy teaching students to swim, having fun and giving back to the community. Swim instructors will receive a free membership to the Rookery Activity Center.

DUTIES

• Ensure the safety of patrons.
• Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations.
• Communicate with members and guests in a professional manner.
• Regularly participate in training sessions.
• Arrive on time for shift and maintain timesheet with accurate number of hours worked.
• Find substitute to cover shift if an absence is necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 16 years of age or older.
• Ability to swim in shallow and deep water to include treading water.
• Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
• Ability to support child and adult body weight in the water.
• One year of swim instructor experience, preferred but not required.
• Avid swimmer, passionate about the sport of swimming, dedicated to the cause of water safety and drowning prevention.
• High-energy personality, outgoing and enjoys working in a fast paced environment.
• Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with parents/guardians.
• Desire to provide excellent customer service to participants, which will result in an exceptional aquatic experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential function of the position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a part-time position. This position's hours will vary based on Activity Center and pool hours.
