Maintenance TechnicianEssex Industries is a multi-site aerospace and defense manufacturer serving military and commercial customers worldwide. We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair our buildings, grounds, company equipment, and plant production support equipment. In this hands-on role, you will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot problems, and independently diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility-related equipment issues while minimizing production downtime. You will also follow and support all company safety, environmental, and maintenance procedures.Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed safely, orderly, and within company policies and procedures.Perform preventive and predictive maintenance according to established schedules and equipment requirements.Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on plant production and support equipment consisting of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical systems, and industrial electrical systems.Respond to equipment breakdowns and production support requests in a timely manner to minimize downtime.Independently diagnose equipment failures, determine root causes when practical, and implement appropriate corrective actions.Troubleshoot electrical systems including motors, motor starters, relays, contactors, sensors, switches, VFDs, and control circuits.Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, blueprints, and technical documentation.Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems including cylinders, valves, regulators, pumps, hoses, fittings, and associated components.Perform mechanical repairs involving bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, couplings, pumps, motors, conveyors, and other industrial equipment.Perform basic fabrication, drilling, cutting, grinding, welding, and equipment modifications as required.Assist with the installation, relocation, setup, and commissioning of manufacturing and facility equipment.Perform monthly inspections of emergency lighting, facility fire extinguishers, and in-house fire alarm systems. Maintain accurate records of all inspections.Perform weekly inspections of hazardous waste satellite and main waste storage areas in accordance with applicable E.P.A. and D.N.R. requirements. Maintain accurate records of all inspections.Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on plant building equipment and systems including boilers, HVAC equipment, compressed air systems, plumbing, lighting, and other facility equipment.Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend repairs or improvements to increase equipment reliability and reduce downtime.Perform grounds maintenance activities including disposing of refuse and snow removal when required.Perform general cleaning and upkeep of buildings, including buffing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and washing windows as needed.Assist other departments as requested, including moving furniture, equipment, and materials and unloading and storing supplies.Requisition and order tools, equipment, repair parts, and maintenance supplies as required. Maintain appropriate spare parts and supplies necessary to support equipment and facility maintenance.Inspect completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards.Perform general building structure repair or remodeling, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and related activities.Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, preventive maintenance documentation, inspection records, and equipment repair history.Support outside contractors and vendors performing maintenance, installation, inspection, or repair work as required.Assist and provide technical guidance to less experienced maintenance personnel when needed.Keep maintenance areas, tools, equipment, and parts clean, organized, and orderly at all times.Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, and other material-handling equipment as authorized and load and unload trucks as needed.Complete labeling of products requiring S.D.S. labels while maintaining accurate records of chemicals received and labeled.Assist with shipments of hazardous waste and scrap metal turnings when required.Participate in continuous improvement, equipment reliability, safety, and cost-reduction activities.Follow all company safety requirements including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, machine guarding, PPE requirements, and applicable environmental and EH&S procedures.Perform other maintenance and facility-related duties as assigned. Ability to work overtime on a regular basis.Requirements: 2 years of technical college education and 2–5 years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, or equivalent experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. CFC certification for refrigerant recovery required when performing applicable HVAC repairs. DOT certification/training as required by assigned responsibilities. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. Ability to independently troubleshoot equipment problems and determine appropriate corrective actions with limited supervision. Experience using electrical test equipment, including digital multimeters. Experience reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
