UCHC operates with a total budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff. Posting Summary Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Staff Nurse for the New Jersey State Prison, located in Trenton, NJ. The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health‑care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus for inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Responsibilities Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of resident‑patients, including adolescents (13‑17 years), adults (18 to 64 years) and their families within the framework established by the correctional system. Performs assessments of resident‑patients in a variety of settings such as initial intake area, health‑care unit for sick call, emergency situations in housing, chronic care clinics, and infirmary. Works with a variety of health‑care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. Identifies inmate‑centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for identified problems. Plans nursing care by identifying resident‑patient needs based on assessments, makes appropriate and timely referrals, and initiates appropriate nursing care based on institutional policies and procedures. As team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties to other health‑care team members based on their skill, knowledge, and experience and guides the provision of care by others. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Certifications / Licenses License to practice in the State of New Jersey. CPR Certification required. Valid Driver's License is required. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting preferred. Salary Details Minimum Salary: $37,230; Mid Range Salary: $46,540; Maximum Salary: $54,050. Benefits Medical, prescription drug, and dental coverage. Physical Demands and Work Environment Must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds upstairs in an emergency treatment bag and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). Special Conditions Must be approved by the Department of Corrections and adhere to all DOC requirements.
