Job Title: Tool & Die Apprentice / Journeyman – 1st Shift (CNC Machinist Focus)
Job Description

This 1st shift Tool & Die Apprentice (or Journeyman) role focuses on planning, laying out, and performing bench and machine operations to build, service, repair, and maintain tools, dies, and fixtures in a stamping and roll forming environment. You will work extensively with CNC mills and lathes, including Haas vertical milling centers, and support a newly installed CNC automated and robotic line. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced CNC Machinist who wants to advance into or deepen expertise in tool and die work while working with large dies and tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lay out, and perform all bench and machine operations required to build, service, repair, and maintain tools, dies, and fixtures.
• Set up, change over, adjust offsets, and operate CNC milling machinery, including Haas vertical milling centers.
• Operate manual and CNC equipment such as surface grinders, milling machines, lathes, drill presses, belt sanders, saws, and hoists.
• Use forklifts, clamps, and lifting devices to safely move and handle dies and components, including dies weighing up to 8,000 pounds.
• Read and interpret complex blueprints, including prints with up to 100 dimensions, to verify part conformance and guide machining and toolmaking work.
• Measure and inspect parts using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to maintain tight tolerances up to +/- 0.005 inch.
• Apply knowledge of G and M codes to change tooling, make offset adjustments, and optimize CNC machining processes.
• Assist with the layout, building, servicing, and repair of tools, dies, and fixtures to support stamping and roll forming operations.
• Support the installation and operation of CNC automated and robotic lines, including several CNC Haas mills, as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures in a stamping and roll forming environment, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
• Lift and move materials and tooling up to 50 pounds in the course of daily work.

• At least 5 years of CNC Machinist experience working with mills and lathes.
• Hands-on experience with Haas vertical milling centers.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in setup, change outs, offsets, and operation of CNC milling machinery.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, including complex prints with up to 100 dimensions.
• Proficient use of precision measurement tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Proven experience working with tight tolerances up to +/- 0.005 inch.
• Solid understanding of G and M codes to change tooling and make offset adjustments on CNC equipment.
• Ability to safely lift and handle up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

• 4 or more years of Tool & Die Maker experience.
• Ability to lay out, build, service, and repair tools, dies, and fixtures.
• Journeyman card in tool and die or a closely related trade.
• Experience in a roll forming environment.
• Background working with large stamping dies and heavy tooling.
• Comfort working in a high-precision, tight-tolerance manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, bright, clean, and well-organized manufacturing facility with a substantial maintenance and tool & die shop. The environment includes stamping and roll forming operations, so certain areas can be loud, particularly near stamping equipment. You will work with a variety of manual and CNC machinery, including surface grinders, milling machines, lathes, drill presses, belt sanders, saws, hoists, forklifts, and several CNC Haas mills within an automated and robotic production line. This is a 1st shift position, working Monday through Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent schedule and three-day weekends. Uniforms are available if desired, supporting a practical and professional work attire standard.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Middlebury, IN.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $34.00/hr.
