Job Title: PCU/IMC Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 hours, Day and Night shifts Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience required License: Active RN license required Certifications: ACLS BLS EKG Course Must-Have: Management experience with IV nitroglycerin, heparin, diltiazem, and amiodarone. Experience with post-cath lab patients is beneficial. Art line experience is appreciated but not required. Description: Department: PCU RN The department has 30 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 but may stretch to 1:5 in cases of sick calls or if additional nursing support is available. Common diagnoses and types of patients include cardiac issues, NSTEMI, post-cath lab, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, gastrointestinal bleed, detox patients, respiratory distress, and sepsis. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set-rate drips include nitroglycerin, diltiazem, insulin, heparin, and amiodarone. Charge RNs take 2 patients and manage the unit. There are nurse aides on the unit, with ratios of 1:10 or 1:12 depending on the census. Respiratory equipment available includes CPAP, BiPAP, and Optiflow. There are telemetry technicians who read strips, and nurses are not required to do so. Telemonitoring utilizes GE equipment. Shifts include 7 AM to 7 PM and 7 PM to 7 AM. Self-scheduling is not available. Staff are generally required to work every other weekend and holiday. There is a standby requirement. Floating to medical-surgical or IMC overflow in ICU may occur. Dress code is navy blue. Unit-specific orientation can last up to 3 days. All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility.
