A mining equipment welder fabricates, repairs, and maintains large metal structures and heavy machinery used in mining operations, such as haul trucks, dozers. Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, using various welding processes (like MIG, Flux, and grinding, gouging, and repairing cracks in equipment. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to strict safety protocols, and the ability to work in challenging conditions, sometimes in confined or underground spaces. 

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair, and maintain heavy mining equipment and site structures
• Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to guide welding and fabrication
• Perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment, including haul trucks, dozers, loaders, and conveyors
• Grind, gouge, and repair cracks in heavy-duty components like shovel buckets and dozer blades
• Conduct inspections to ensure the quality and integrity of welds
• Adhere to strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs and policies
• Use various welding processes, such as FCAW (stick), GMAW (MIG),
• Work with other tradespeople to complete maintenance and repair projects
• Assist with preventative maintenance and cleanup of work areas 

Essential skills and qualifications

• Proficiency in multiple welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick)
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical documentation
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Knowledge of safety protocols for hazardous environments and materials
• Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy materials and work for long periods in various positions
• High school diploma or equivalent is often required
