Clinical Social Worker
The Clinical Social Worker, under general supervision, practices in adherence with a team that includes the Division Administrator, Project Leaders, and Program Managers to ensure the Health Department achieves its strategic objectives and key results in alignment with its mission: to improve the health and quality of life of Detroiters through innovative public health policy, clinical service, programs, and partnerships. Provides clinical assessment, interventions, and services in adherence to regulatory standards, Code of Ethics, license that governs the practice of social work in the state of Michigan. The Clinical Social Worker supports division leadership in implementing programs and services to best meet the public health needs of the community. Duties and responsibilities include program coordination and implementation, daily operations, and communication.
Examples of Duties
- Provide psychosocial education and support to participants focusing on stress management, anxiety, postpartum depression, social determinant of health and other socio-emotional needs
- Administer PHQ-9 and GAD-7 assessments
- Conduct development assessments for children enrolled in the program
- Provide support and education, facilitating childbirth education classes, focusing on childbirth, postpartum care and birth plan development
- Provide case management oversight to community health workers, in complex situations that requires clinical intervention
- Serve as expert in the case where maltreatment is suspected/present
- Conduct psychosocial assessments of participants
- Apply social work ethical principles to guide professional practice
- Address participants short-term needs while developing long-term interventions and solutions
- Collect, organize and report data that support programming and service delivery
- Maintain complete and accurate records of activities and interventions
- Assist in the recruitment of program participants
- Conduct/participate in community outreach and activities
- Participate in team reviews, meeting and training
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners and referral sources
- Apply critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgement
- Engage community members through focus groups, listening sessions and surveys
- Growth and development through continuous learning
- Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team that includes community volunteers, nursing, and community health workers
- Work in partnership with other programs and services at the Detroit Health Department to meet the needs of Detroiter
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree Public Health, Business Administration, Health Science Administration or other related field, with two years experience in community engagement, community organizing, and project coordination and implementation. Preferred A Master's degree in social work and a License to practice in the state of Michigan. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirement of this position.
