This places UT among the most significant intellectual hubs for computer science, information, and statistics and data science research and education anywhere in the world. The School of Computing has a close relationship with Austin’s thriving tech culture and works at the forefront of fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. Purpose The Associate Director, Academic Advising & Programs provides strategic leadership for undergraduate academic advising operations, orientation and transition programs, enrollment management, academic policy administration, and academic program support within the School of Computing. This position oversees advising operations for Computer Science and Statistics & Data Science undergraduate programs, supervises advising staff, provides oversight for advising services supporting honors and specialized student populations, and collaborates with faculty and university partners to support student progression, academic excellence, and timely degree completion. The Associate Director serves as a key member of the School’s undergraduate academic affairs leadership team and plays a critical role in developing innovative approaches to advising, onboarding, academic program administration, and operational effectiveness to support a growing and diverse student population. Responsibilities Academic Advising, Orientation & Operations: Provide strategic leadership and oversight for advising operations supporting undergraduate Computer Science and Statistics & Data Science students. Supervise, develop, and evaluate advising staff while establishing operational goals, service standards, and assessment practices. Provide leadership for orientation, onboarding, and transition initiatives in collaboration with university orientation and enrollment partners. Develop advising strategies, policies, and operational processes that support student success and timely degree completion. Serve as a resource for complex academic, enrollment, and student issues, and assist with school info sessions for prospective students when needed. Academic Programs, Advising & Student Pathways: Provide operational oversight and coordination for the Programming & Computation Certificate and Five-Year BS/MS Integrated Program in partnership with faculty leadership. Oversee advising services and student support initiatives for honors, interdisciplinary, integrated degree, and selective-entry programs, including Turing Scholars, Texas CSB, and other specialized student populations. Coordinate student communications, enrollment processes, advising initiatives, and program operations for assigned populations. Partner with faculty directors and program leadership to support student success, program assessment, and continuous improvement. Support the development and implementation of new academic programs and student opportunities within the School of Computing. Seat Management, Academic Policy & Degree Progression: Lead efforts related to enrollment management, student progression, and degree completion. Oversee petitions, policy exceptions, and implementation of university, college, and school academic policies. Assist with course demand planning, enrollment forecasting, and registration management. Monitor student progression and academic outcomes to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Develop recommendations and solutions to address complex academic, enrollment, and policy-related issues. Faculty Collaboration & Strategic Partnerships: Serve as a liaison among faculty, students, families, and university partners. Collaborate with faculty and School leadership on academic policies, curriculum implementation, and strategic initiatives. Build partnerships across advising, enrollment management, and student affairs units to support School priorities. Represent the School on committees, working groups, and institutional initiatives. Assessment, Reporting & Administrative Leadership: Develop reports, analyses, and recommendations to support strategic planning and operational decision-making. Assess advising services, orientation initiatives, and academic programs to support continuous improvement. Leverage technology and emerging tools to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency. Participate in professional development. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree with progressively responsible experience in academic advising, student affairs, academic program administration, or higher education administration. Five years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, academic program administration, enrollment management, student affairs, or higher education administration. Experience supervising professional staff. Demonstrated experience leading complex programs, projects, or initiatives. Strong knowledge of academic policies, student records, and degree requirements. Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze data and use information to inform decision‑making and program improvement. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Salary Range $85,000 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions Typical office environment.
