Position Details Part-time 2 days per week, evening shift 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., rotates every 4th weekend (10:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends). Supports outpatient areas. Mandatory orientation first week 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Job Summary Under the direction of the Patient Access Registration Front Line Manager, the Acute Care Hospital Registrar 1 ensures a smooth and timely registration/admission process by obtaining accurate demographic, clinical, and insurance data, collecting co-pay, deductible, residual and prior balances, performing initial financial screening on self-pay & out‑of‑network patients, and referring them to Financial Advisors as necessary while providing optimal customer satisfaction, reception, and patient way‑finding. Essential Functions Greet customers promptly with a warm and friendly reception. Direct patients to appropriate settings, explaining and apologizing for any delays. Maintain professionalism and diplomacy following department policy. Register patients via EPIC, collect and document demographic and financial information. Activate, convert, and discharge visits on EPIC. Perform thorough interviewing techniques, ensuring accurate and timely documentation. Scan and upload required forms and documents via EPIC. Scrutinize patient insurance, identify correct plan, select appropriate EPIC order, and document insurance accurately. Apply recurring visit processing as per protocol. Verify patient information with third‑party payers, collect referrals, and documents on EPIC. Communicate with patients and physicians regarding authorizations and referrals. Obtain financial responsibility forms and documents. Review, obtain, and witness hospital consent forms and Notice of Privacy Practices. Screen outpatient visits for medical necessity, provide cost estimates, collect advance directive information, Medicare questionnaire, issue Medicare inpatient letter and off‑site notifications. Scan documents, manage compliance with hospital Compliance Plans and meaningful use requirements. Screen self‑pay & out‑of‑network patients using EPIC tools, provide financial advocacy, initiate payment plans, inform patients of funding programs and discounts, incorporate POS collection processes. Issue receipts and complete cash balance sheets where appropriate; audit and control cash processes. Transcribe physician orders, clarify with physicians/office staff, determine ICD‑10 codes, perform medical necessity checks, issue ABN as needed. Affix wristbands, prepare patient charts. Manage and prepare miscellaneous reports, schedules, paperwork; maintain inventory of supplies. Facilitate ancillary testing scheduling in identified areas. Identify potential duplicate records for merge and contact patients if necessary. Preceptor duties as needed. Maintain productivity, collection targets, quality audit scores, and registration standards. Provide excellent service to clinical departments and physicians; contribute to process improvement. Perform clerical duties: typing, filing, faxing, calling patients, receiving payments, etc. Maintain Corewell Health Customer Service Standards: Service, Ownership, Attitude, Respect. Remain compliant with TB testing & flu vaccination per hospital requirements. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year of relevant customer service or healthcare industry experience. Must be 18 years of age. Proficient in medical terminology and able to type at least 30 words per minute. Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, EPIC, electronic eligibility systems, and third‑party payer verification websites.
