Senior Platform Engineer

Job Description We're hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to help us make an already-reliable platform faster, cheaper, and easier to operate. This is a rare chance to join a small, high-impact Platform Engineering team at an established, venture-backed startup with a production platform serving major financial services customers. You will work directly with the Head of Platform Engineering to improve the platform while also handling adhoc requests from internal customers - Product Engineering, Data Engineering, and Data Science. Our stack on AWS Dockerized applications running on AWS ECS PostgreSQL databases on RDS CI/CD through AWS CodeBuild and CodePipeline Observability with CloudWatch, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry Responsibilities Collaborate directly with the Head of Platform Engineering to execute on the backlog and deliver operational improvements to the platform Maintain and improve the reliability and performance of ForMotiv's AWS infrastructure and applications as we grow Maintain and improve our CI/CD pipelines (CodePipeline/CodeBuild) Extend our observability stack (CloudWatch, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) - deeper SLO coverage, better signal, less noise Respond to production incidents - triage, root-cause analysis, and post-mortem writeups, and preventative follow-up Maintain and strengthen our security compliance posture (Security Hub, logging, access controls) Support engineering and data science teams with tooling, guardrails, and quick help when they're blocked Perform off hour maintenance when required (e.g. major Postgres upgrades) Qualifications 5+ years as a DevOps, Cloud, Platform, or Infrastructure Engineer working primarily with AWS Strong proficiency with Python and AWS CDK (Python SDK) and modern cloud-native tools Hands‑on experience with Docker, AWS ECS, RDS (PostgreSQL), and S3‑based data lakes (Iceberg experience is a big plus) Experience with CI/CD pipelines (AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild preferred) Familiarity with observability tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry (or similar) Strong UNIX/Linux fundamentals, AWS networking concepts, and the ability to troubleshoot common issues Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries against PostgreSQL Comfortable working in an Agile environment with standard tooling (Git, Jira, or equivalents) Nice‑to‑Haves AWS certifications (Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer) Experience with FinOps / cloud cost optimization at the unit‑cost level Background or exposure to Machine Learning / Data Science environments Familiarity with the AWS Well‑Architected Framework What ForMotiv Offers: Stock options with vested interest in growing the business Ground floor access to venture‑backed technology start‑up with global presence Permanent, full‑time employment with company sponsored employee health, dental & 401k plans The 5 Cultural Characteristics we look for Curiosity: You look at each day as an opportunity to learn something new, not as an opportunity to prove what you already know.
