Logistics Manager

The job of the Logistics Manager is done for the purposes of ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transportation of students through exceptional leadership and logistics coordination of the daily functions within the Transportation Department. This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the department, provides leadership and guidance to the department supervisors, and manages the operational areas of the Transportation Department.

This is a full-time 240 days per year position, eligible for benefits. Typical working days are Monday – Friday.

Position will remain posted until filled.

Requirements:

1. Educational Level: High school diploma or equivalent required. Targeted job-related education preferred.

2. Certification/License Required: Valid Driver's License, CDL preferred.

3. Experience: Minimum of five years job related experience is required with increasing levels of responsibility.

4. Physical Activities: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to the weather and outside temperatures.

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge is required to perform basic math, understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly in English; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions in English. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: common office machines; and office methods and practices. Knowledge of Georgia traffic laws as well as federal, state, and local laws/regulations/policies/guidelines/terminology related to student transportation and commercial transportation in general. Knowledge of local roads and traffic patterns. Skills are required to perform multiple technical tasks with the need to regularly upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; utilizing specialized software; effective leadership skills; customer service skills. Must be able to maintain all applicable licenses and certifications. Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, classify, and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Ability to write professional correspondence. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals. Significant problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is extensive. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; working with frequent interruptions; working as part of a team; maintaining confidentiality; being attentive to detail; meeting deadlines and schedules; adapting to changing work priorities. Ability to maintain prompt and regular attendance. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25lbs; ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

Essential Duties:

• Develop and implement comprehensive logistics plans which ensure efficient operations of the Transportation Department for the purpose of ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant transport of students
• Provide direct supervision to the Transportation Supervisors who are responsible for managing the daily work of the Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors for the purpose of ensuring proper oversight of department logistics
• Monitor time and attendance of transportation staff and resolve scheduling challenges for the purpose of ensuring all routes are covered
• Track staff hours and overtime for the purpose of ensuring the department remains within budget
• Create, implement, and monitor standard operating procedures for all daily operations within the Transportation Department for the purpose of ensuring the department functions optimally and within industry standards and norms
• Establish and monitor processes and protocols for routing students for the purpose of creating efficient bus routes
• Provide direct supervision to the department's operations team (customer service, dispatch, routers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient department operations
• Create and analyze various data points and reports for the purpose of archiving and distributing relevant data used for decisions and historical reference
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify areas of improvement, develop, and implement improvement plans for the purpose of ensuring the department is consistently meeting all applicable KPI's
• Collaborate with various district stakeholders and third-party vendors to operate, maintain, and repair department software, equipment, and subscription services for the purpose of ensuring consistent operation, contract adherence, and proper data sharing
• Collaborate with Human Resources and other district offices in support of staff performance and corrective action processes for the purpose of ensuring all HR protocols are followed
• Coordinate with various district stakeholders on the start of school protocols, registration, routing, on-going transportation requests, and distribution of bus passes for the purpose of fostering proactive cross-functional collaboration
• Respond to bus accidents and other driver support radio calls as needed for the purpose of operating a safe and efficient department
• Regularly receive and respond to e-mail, phone calls, and personal visits from various stakeholders for the purpose of providing excellent customer service and proactive communication
• Assist director with developing safety policies, regulations, procedures, severe weather protocols, weather cancellations, emergency response, etc. for the purpose of maintaining the department's safety standards
• Attend meetings, conferences, and participate in training workshops, as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
