Lead Product Experience Strategist (JL5)

The client wants a Product Discovery and Product Strategy leader who can influence investment decisions before engineering starts , not a delivery-focused PM, implementation consultant, or traditional researcher.

Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)

Duration: Through February 2027 with possible extension

What This Role Actually Is

This is not a Product Manager role, UX Research role, or Delivery/Implementation role.

The client is looking for someone who can help answer:

• What problems are worth solving?
• What evidence is needed before investing?
• How do we reduce risk before engineering starts?
• Should we proceed, pivot, pause, or stop an initiative?
• How can operational insights translate into differentiated products?

Success is measured by:

• Better product investment decisions
• Reduced engineering waste
• Stronger product strategy
• Evidence-based recommendations before development begins

Must-Have Experience

Product Discovery & Strategy

Candidates should have experience:

✅ Defining ambiguous problems

✅ Designing discovery plans

✅ Identifying assumptions and risks

✅ Conducting discovery before development

✅ Influencing product direction

✅ Recommending whether investments should move forward or stop

✅ Working with Product, Engineering, and business leadership teams.

Strong Backgrounds

Years of Experience

• 7-10+ years
• Enterprise-scale environments
• Experience influencing product decisions before development begins

What They Will Do

Design Evidence Strategies

The candidate should be able to:

• Translate vague business problems into structured discovery plans
• Identify knowns, unknowns, and assumptions
• Determine the lowest-cost validation approach
• Decide when enough confidence exists to invest

Lead Discovery

Activities may include:

• Operational observations
• Customer interviews
• Stakeholder workshops
• Co-creation sessions
• Prototype validation
• Competitive analysis

Influence Product Direction

Should be able to:

• Quantify business impact
• Identify operational opportunities
• Recommend product investments
• Stop or redirect weak opportunities
• Identify reusable platform capabilities

AI Expectations

The JD specifically calls out daily use of AI.

Strong candidates should demonstrate using AI for:

• Discovery planning
• Research synthesis
• Opportunity analysis
• Strategic recommendations
• Stakeholder communication

The client did not view simple productivity usage (summarization or note-taking) as sufficient. They want AI applied to strategic thinking and decision support.
