Underwriting Analyst

Position Summary Entry-level Underwriting Associate in the Stop Loss Division, responsible for data entry, analysis, and support to ensure accurate underwriting information. This role provides essential clerical and analytical support to Underwriting Assistants and Underwriters. Key Responsibilities Pull and distribute census and zip code information into internal databases. Evaluate, analyze, and interpret plan documents, amendments, and benefit schedules from TPAs and brokers. Ensure accuracy and completion of underwriting information and data entry forms for new, sold, renewal, and life cases. Enter pertinent data from RFP analysis to generate manual rates from the internal database. Analyze aggregate reports from TPAs/brokers to assess risk and assist Underwriters in discretionary decisions. Collect all necessary information for Underwriters to provide accurate quotes for TPAs and brokers. Generate analysis reports illustrating underwriting department progress and renewal/new business growth. Communicate effectively with TPAs, brokers, peers, and other departments, answering questions within scope. Study the Underwriting Manual and HCCB procedures with a goal of advancing to an underwriting position. Maintain required documentation on all RFPs and policy renewals in system, manual files, and scanned storage. Perform general clerical duties such as data entry, mailing, copying, filing, faxing, scanning, ordering supplies, and operating office equipment. Education, Experience & Knowledge Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent education and experience). Ability to read and interpret benefits documents, bid specifications, claim reports, and procedural manuals. Knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and procedures. Strong written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy. Advanced organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word). Capable of working overtime as needed. Must remain stationary for extended periods and lift up to 10 pounds.
