Salary: $44,928.00 Annually The Education Specialist: Curriculum and Instruction project manager manages special projects relating to PreK-12 education programs and educator professional development. They are responsible for leading and developing all PreK-12 STEM curricula for the Education Department including workshops, educator professional development, family programs, conference presentations and camps. The daily functions of this position consist of but are not limited to engaging and educating PreK-12 students, educators and their caregivers about STEM and various sciences with the use of age appropriate, inquiry based, hands‑on activities in an informal setting. In addition, they will deliver educational content in one of the following ways: hands‑on workshops, educator professional development, and family programming both on and off museum grounds. Essential Functions Performs the function of project manager for assigned special projects relating to PreK-12 education and out-of-school time learning. Works in conjunction with the Director of Education Initiatives to foster relationships with external partners, develop timelines and contracts as needed to ensure completion of all grant and sponsor deliverables for assigned projects. Works in conjunction with Director of Education Initiatives to develop all PreK-12 science curricula for the Education Department including workshops, educator professional development, family programs, conference presentations, and camps. Delivers education programming in accordance with the STEM Discovery Center’s brand and values to engage students, educators and their caregivers in high-quality hands‑on activities and instruction. Creates and delivers education staff trainings for education programs and pedagogy. Completes routine education staff program evaluations and provides coaching and feedback. Ensures all programs are developmentally appropriate and align with Florida State Standards as required. Creates assessments, pre and post tools, and evaluations as required for reporting requirements. Monitors quality control for all education curricula and updates existing programs and content as needed. Maintains a safe and secure environment for guests and staff. Keeps current in science and education related to OSC’s content and exhibits. Safely operates OSC vehicle when delivering programs offsite. Maintains a valid Florida’s driver’s license and acceptable driving record as stipulated by OSC’s insurance carrier. Demonstrates commitment to OSC's vision, mission, and values. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: A bachelor’s degree in education, science, communication, or theater with a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working with students and teachers. Degree may be substituted for 5 years relevant work experience in the field of informal learning or education. Experience & Certifications: Prior teaching experience with PreK-12 students, educators and caregivers. Knowledge of state standards and experience developing and leading informal education programs featuring best practice. Ability to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment. Ability to establish and maintain an effective rapport with others. Excellent communication skills; presentation and public speaking. Reliable, organized, self-starter. Ability to work with little direct supervision. Enthusiastic, friendly, outgoing; must love working with people. Employee must possess a valid Florida driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of beginning employment, maintain an acceptable driving record as stipulated by OSC’s insurance carrier. Must be comfortable driving an OSC vehicle. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with age-appropriate STEM technologies and tools (i.e. robotics, coding, etc.). Knowledge of informal education and museum practices. Experience working with preschool aged children in formal or informal settings. Experience facilitating educator professional development. Experience creating educator professional development. Supervisory Responsibility N/A Physical Demands Ability to remain in a stationary position. Moves throughout the museum. Ascends/descends stairs throughout the museum. Ascends/descends ladders or other equipment to perform various tasks. Observes and reacts to the needs of guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners. Communicates and exchanges accurate information with guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners in a variety of formats including in-person, electronically, and over the phone. Operates a computer and/or office equipment efficiently and accurately. Manipulates and moves components weighing up to 55 pounds, including those that may be low to the ground or above eye level. Occasionally works in outdoor environments. Frequently works in indoor environments. Coping with demands and stresses associated with job and work environment. Kneeling and crouching (frequently) Up to 55 pounds Expected Hours of Work & Travel This position is full time and primarily works Monday – Friday. This position must be able to work weekends and after hour events as needed. Travel throughout the Central Florida area may be required to attend conferences/trainings/deliver programs. Telecommuting This position is required to be onsite 60% of the time.
