Manager Mechanical Engineering
Intuitive Surgical
Intuitive Surgical seeks a Manager of Mechanical Engineering to lead a team developing instruments and accessories for da Vinci surgical systems. The role spans product lifecycle phases from feasibility through launch, requiring collaboration across functions and strong team leadership in a regulated medical device environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design engineers through all product development phases for da Vinci instruments
- Collaborate with product management, clinical, and human factors teams to translate customer needs into product plans
- Develop project staffing plans, schedules, budgets, and performance metrics for direct team
- Guide design requirements, prototyping, testing, and design transfer to manufacturing
- Build and develop capable team through recruitment, coaching, performance management, and career advancement
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 8+ years designing mechanical products or conducting R&D
- 2+ years managing people or leading teams
- Experience in medical device development or highly regulated environments
- Proficiency with CAD and engineering analysis tools
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders
- Knowledge of full product development lifecycle including design through transfer
