Information Services consists of four major functional areas: Customer Experience, which serves as the key contact point for interactions with campus clients and customers; Applications & Middleware, which manages and supports applications, integration services, identity management and data management; Information Security, which helps protect virtual or physical information; and Technology Infrastructure, which provides administration and support for the software, hardware, and services needed to support the campus IT environment. Position Summary The Web Accessibility Specialist supports the University of Oregon's commitment to digital accessibility by evaluating, guiding, and consulting on the accessibility of university websites, web-based systems, and mobile applications. This role is vital to ensuring compliance with accessibility standards and regulations, improving the user experience for individuals with disabilities, and empowering stakeholders to provide inclusive digital content. The Specialist conducts manual accessibility evaluations and is informed by automated evaluations, identifying barriers in university websites, mobile apps, and online systems. Key responsibilities include conducting expert technical audits, providing expert-level training and consulting, managing automated scanning tools, and tracking compliance. They ensure that accessibility operations within their scope align with governance recommendations and university strategies. The Specialist assesses technology solutions for web accessibility compliance, advises on best practices, and provides content remediation support. They equip content creators with the knowledge and tools they need to address accessibility issues at scale. This position also plays a key role in communication and training, developing tailored accessibility materials for different university audiences. Using platforms like MyTrack and LinkedIn Learning, they deliver training and monitor participation. Additionally, the Specialist helps maintain web-based accessibility guidelines and best practices. The Web Accessibility Specialist collaborates closely with university departments, web developers, content creators, and governance groups, serving as a subject matter expert in web accessibility standards and inclusive design practices. The incumbent in this position will have a detailed understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA standards and be proficient in conducting manual accessibility evaluations using assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver, as well as working with automated accessibility testing tools like DubBot. Experience with HTML, CSS, and ARIA is important for assessing and improving web content accessibility, along with the ability to review and support remediation efforts for documents, multimedia, and other digital assets. Strong communication skills will be essential for collaborating with university stakeholders, providing accessibility guidance, and contributing to training and consulting efforts. Must be able to independently complete the essential function of evaluating all aspects of WCAG 2.1 AA compliance of web content and mobile apps, including visual and auditory inspection and physical interaction via keyboard, mouse, and touchscreen inputs. Minimum Requirements
• This position requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of technology and information systems generally obtained through an AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience. • Ability to review, assess, and recommend remediation strategies for accessibility issues in documents (PDFs, Word, PowerPoint) and multimedia content (audio, video).
• Knowledge of procurement and vendor assessment for accessibility compliance in enterprise technology solutions.

• Two or more years of professional experience conducting manual WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 AA evaluations of web content, including the use of screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and other assistive technologies, and evaluation of HTML and CSS code.
• In-depth expert knowledge of, and experience applying, WCAG 2.1 AA standards and best practices for compliance.
• Experience that has led to proficiency with the use of screen readers to evaluate accessibility, including JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.
• Experience communicating the results of accessibility evaluations to stakeholders or colleagues.
• Experience explaining accessibility concepts to non-technical audiences, including content creators, designers, developers, and/or administrators.
• Experience using enterprise web and LMS accessibility scanning tools (e.g., DubBot, PopeTech) for accessibility scanning and reporting.
