Retail Merchandising Expert for AI Evaluation

Merchandise Planners apply retail merchandising and planning expertise to evaluate AI-generated content and to produce expert training data that reflects real-world merchandise planning, inventory optimization, and promotional strategy workflows. This is a flexible, hourly contract role intended to run alongside research, teaching, postdoctoral work, or industry employment.

• Use hands-on experience with merchandise planning and inventory tools to assess AI outputs for accuracy and relevance.
• Create expert-level training examples based on real merchandising workflows.
• Evaluate AI-generated recommendations and provide detailed feedback to improve model understanding of merchandising practices.
• Apply knowledge of demand forecasting, in-season reforecasting, markdown optimization, hindsight analysis, and promotional campaign planning when reviewing content.

• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in retail merchandising or merchandise planning.
• Experience in roles such as Merchandise Planner or Senior Merchandise Planner, or equivalent retail planning positions.
• Hands-on familiarity with merchandising workflows, including demand forecasting and in-season reforecast, markdown optimization, hindsight analysis, and promotional campaign planning.
• Strong written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and asynchronously with research teams.

• Engagement type: part-time, hourly contract work, remote.
• Schedule: fully remote, flexible and asynchronous, with no minimum hour requirement.
• Typical time commitment when engaged in an active project is approximately 5 to 20 hours per week.
• Placement on projects depends on current project needs, and contributors may be considered for future projects as they become available.

Up to $80/hr (depending on the project)

• F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be eligible to participate, but you must consult your Designated School Official to confirm whether this work meets your school rules.
• If your school requires enrollment in a CPT course, this contract work may not satisfy that requirement.
• STEM OPT is not supported for this work.
