Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

position will perform two important roles. First, the registration of patients, and the second is the operation of a medical mobile unit (i.e., specialty vehicle). The incumbent is responsible for interviewing and registering patients. Completing the required documentation for medical and pharmacy billing claims, collecting, and analyzing all patient demographic information, third party coverage (i.e., insurance), and data entering clinical elements. Is responsible for data integrity to further expedite third party reimbursement and optimize customer satisfaction.The medical mobile units are equipped and designed to provide medical and dental services. The incumbent must be able to drive in all types of road and weather conditions. This position requires the ability to work under conditions of frequent interruptions, working a flexible work schedule, and providing support to the patient registration department as necessary. This is a Grant funded position.

Qualifications

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

• Experience with general clerical office skills
• Must have at least six (6) months or more of active driving record with a current valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Other Skills and Abilities:

• A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:
• Positive working relationships with others.
• Proficient with typing skills and accurate spelling/grammar.
• Experience with general clerical office skills with the use of electronic systems such as copier to scan, print, and fax.

Physical:

Incumbent must be able to sit, stand, walk, drive, twist, maintain balance, reach, simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulation, use of keyboards for ¾ workday and bend, climb, kneel, and crouch for ½ workday. Incumbent will have to be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds for prolonged period of workday. Must be able to lift to 100 pounds frequently. Pushing and pulling up to 100 lbs. occasionally. Sensory requirements include the ability for far, near color, seeing fine details, hearing norm speech and telephone use for prolonged periods of workday. Incumbent must be able to use depth perception and hearing overhead pages occasionally. Incumbent must accept flexible schedule to meet unit needs.

Mental And Emotional requirements:

Incumbent has the ability to cope with high level of stress, make decision under high pressure, cope with anger/fear/hostility of other in a calm way, manage altercations, concentrate, handle multiple priorities in a stress situation, demonstrate high degree of patience, adapt to shift work, work in areas that are close and crowded ¾ of workday and handle a high degree of flexibility and work alone frequently.

Environmental Exposure:

Incumbent may experience expose to Infectious diseases, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, extremes in temperature or humidity, hazardous moving equipment, unprotected heights, and loud noises frequently.

Responsibilities

PATIENT ACCESS SPECIALIST FUNCTIONS

1. Schedules patients for check-in and check-out using the scheduling software. Reviews, updates, and maintains all patient data in multiple patient accounting and registration systems by initiating the completion of forms required for billing and admitting processes.
2. Works with the designated software systems in order register and assist the providers and financial processes.
3. Serves patients and visitors by welcoming and greeting them in person and/or on the telephone, answers inquiries and delivers messages to appropriate personnel.
4. Interviews patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information, assures document scanning, retrieving, and editing and patient identification to determine patient's insurance coverage, limitations and communicates to patient any co-pays or deductibles.
5. Identifies patient's potential financial liability for a specific service and identifies patients at risk for inability to meet financial liability. Makes referral to an appropriate agency/person. Provides an overview of options available to patients/families by assessing patient understanding of Patient Registration process to determine appropriate response to patient’s questions and applications and communicates appropriate information needed to complete patient’s eligibility process.
6. Performs income screening for Patient Benefits Coordination, collect available data and provides a referral when necessary.
7. Assists patients in completing and updating forms required for medical records, third party insurer, and the facility.
8. Provides information on patient rights and resource benefits and tactfully advises patient of non-payment or denial of claims. If denials or other rejection of alternate resources occur, incumbent will intervene on patient’s behalf by contacting and verifying coverage through third party resource.
9. Serves patients and visitors by welcoming and greeting them in person and/or on the telephone, answers inquiries and delivers messages to appropriate personnel.
10. Assembles patient charts after the interview is completed, intake and coordinate data from all visits encountered during the shift.

TRANSPORT TECHNCIAN FUNCTIONS

1. Handles the controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving a mobile medical unit; aware of the height, width, length, and weight of the unit and judges overhead and side clearances, turning radius, braking distance, and the safest distance to be maintained from a preceding vehicle.
2. Recognizes hazardous conditions and change routes to avoid them; assists in loading and unloading supplies, cargo, etc., and considers how to store and stock supplies to prevent shifting.
3. Reports accidents or other safety situations to appropriate personnel. Inspects exterior and interior of vehicle atbeginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, air-conditioning or heating,warning lamps, mirror adjustment, properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc., prior to moving vehicle. Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of vehicle are properly cleaned and vehicle is adequately fueled on an ongoing basis.
4. Upon relocation at a new site, makes all electrical and plumbing connections and ensures equipment is operable as required by law & policy.
5. Proper PPE worn inside assigned Clinics or Units. NIOSH- approved N95 Masks filtering face piece respirator or higher, if available, Eye or Face shields, Gloves, and Isolation Gowns.
6. Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. Training well be provided.
7. Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
