About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Women's Care Unit - Medical Surgical Duration: 15 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Active Illinois Nursing License Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical - Experience with NG placement, foley placement, blood administration, heparin and insulin drips - Ability to titrate drips, specifically heparin and insulin Description: This unit consists of 18 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-6. The common diagnoses include hysterectomy, mastectomy, postpartum patients, and general medical/surgical patients. There is one charge nurse on each shift, and the housing supervisor is available during each shift. Patient care technicians are present, with ratios of 1 technician for 12 patients and 2 technicians for more than 12. Respiratory equipment, such as CPAP, is available on the unit. Patients may have heart monitors, but nurses are not required to read the strips. Shifts are 12 hours long, running from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, and travelers will be assigned to shifts where there is the greatest need. Weekend requirements consist of four weekend shifts per scheduling period. Holiday requirements are included in the core staff rotation. Floating to other general medical units is required. Scrubs of any color are permissible. There is a 12-hour unit-specific orientation. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position. This setting operates in an acute care environment.
