While Afton operates production facilities worldwide, their primary research and development headquarters is in Richmond, VA, where cutting-edge engine and chemical testing takes place.Role OverviewAfton Chemical is seeking Maintenance Technicians to support mechanical and engine testing within their R&D labs. This role focuses on running controlled engine tests to validate the performance of petroleum additives.ResponsibilitiesSet up and initiate engine and mechanical test cyclesMonitor ongoing tests and record performance dataCollect samples and document readingsTroubleshoot test interruptions and perform basic maintenanceReset and prepare test machinery after each cycleAssist with engine teardown and cleaning using parts washersParticipate in daily pre-shift safety and planning meetingsTime Breakdown• 60% monitoring tests and collecting data• 20% starting and configuring tests• 20% teardown, cleaning, and prep for next testTraining & Schedule• First 8–12 weeks: rotate both shifts and both locations (Richmond & Ashland)• After training: assigned to a fixed shiftShifts: 11:00am–11:00pm or 11:00pm–11:00am Sun–Wed or Wed–SatWhat's in It for You• Strong path to permanent employment• Pension and robust benefits upon conversion• Consistent overtime (average ~50 hours/week)• PPE and uniforms provided• Stable, long-term career environment in R&D
