Maintenance Worker

Job TitleThis position is responsible for maintaining the Right of Ways for the Urban Forestry & Beautification Division.Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties include:Removing dirt and debris from roads.Carrying tools, mixing concrete, sweeping street gutters; shoveling gravel, snow, dirt, sand, raking leaves, and cutting brush.Picking up litter and debris from right of way; cleaning up spills by placing sand on them; removing trash and litter from curbs and gutters; raking leaves and using blowers; cutting grass.Directing traffic around the work site during road repairs, and spreading seeds, fertilizers, and mulch during landscaping.Loading and unloading trucks with proper materials.Maintaining landscaping, mowing, planting, and seeding. Delivering concessions, chemicals, and miscellaneous equipment.Maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment. Picking up garbage and debris as assigned.Cleaning truck and other equipment.Applying fertilizer; planting grass and shrubbery.Assisting in the cleaning and maintenance of the fleet yard.Removing trash from park grounds and buildings; cleaning restrooms.Carrying out a continuous effort to improve operations and work processes, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service.Performing other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThe knowledge, skills, and abilities include:Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the performance of grounds maintenance and landscaping activities.Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the performance of grounds maintenance and landscaping activities.Knowledge of the safe operation of assigned equipment.Skill in problem-solving and decision-making.Skill in the operation of hand tools and other assigned equipment.Skill in oral and written communication.Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.Minimum Educational and Training RequirementsKnowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Must possess a valid driver's license. This position is required to supervise state inmate's labor.
