Summary CHS is seeking a safety-focused and hands-on Operations Supervisor to lead daily operations at our Rail & Truck Wash Facility in Mankato, MN! This working supervisor is responsible for driving a strong safety culture, leading and developing a team of employees, and ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality facility performance. The Operations Supervisor role will balance leadership responsibilities, including employee scheduling, timekeeping, inventory management, chemical and supply purchasing, and continuous improvement initiatives, with direct involvement in facility operations such as equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, pressure washing, and other physically demanding tasks. The ideal candidate is a mechanically inclined leader with strong problem-solving skills, experience leading people, and the ability to understand and optimize operational processes while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and customer requirements. This position typically works a day-shift schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with flexibility to adjust hours (such as 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) based on business needs, staffing requirements, and operational demands. Responsibilities Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all safety policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and environmental standards. Lead and develop supervisors and operational teams, driving accountability for employee performance, engagement, training, and professional growth. Manage staffing, payroll, scheduling, performance evaluations, hiring activities, and employee development to support production requirements and workforce effectiveness. Develop and execute production strategies through collaboration with operations, maintenance, quality, turnaround, and other cross-functional teams. Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational reliability, productivity, cost efficiency, product quality, and resource utilization. Monitor production performance, plant uptime, yields, quality metrics, utility consumption, and operational KPIs; analyze data and implement corrective actions as needed. Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to drive consistency, reduce process variation, and improve operational excellence. Coordinate maintenance activities, troubleshoot operational and equipment issues, and partner with maintenance teams to optimize equipment reliability and performance. Serve as a key point of contact for customer interactions, regulatory inspections, QA/QC activities, and internal and external audits. Ensure effective execution of quality assurance programs, including process monitoring, product testing, specification compliance, and corrective action implementation. Manage facility inventories, procurement activities, documentation, and operational records to ensure uninterrupted production and regulatory compliance. Lead initiatives to improve customer service, operational effectiveness, plant cleanliness, and overall facility performance. Supervise daily operations, assign priorities, allocate resources, and coordinate work efforts across shifts, departments, and functional teams. Participate in capital, reliability, and operational improvement projects focused on increasing efficiency, reducing operating costs, and supporting long-term business objectives. Maintain a clean, organized, and food-grade compliant work environment while promoting accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence. Perform additional leadership and operational responsibilities as assigned in support of business needs. Minimum Qualifications (required) High School diploma or GED 2+ years of experience in Operations and/or Production Operations Additional Qualifications Associate's degree in Operations, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field Experience managing rail, truck, wash facility, logistics, grain, ethanol, food processing, or manufacturing operations Experience supporting QA/QC programs, customer audits, and regulatory inspectionsExperience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or KaizenMaintenance troubleshooting experience with pumps, valves, blowers, water softeners, and industrial wash systems Maintenance troubleshooting experience with pumps, valves, blowers, water softeners, and industrial wash systems Demonstrated ability to influence & lead people within and across organizational lines Strong verbal and written communication skills in communicating to supervised employees as well as cross-functional team-members. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs and ladders, and work throughout the facility for extended periods of time. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50-75 pounds and perform occasional manual labor to support facility operations. Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, chemicals, and moving equipment. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safely operate or inspect facility equipment and systems.Ability to effectively communicate, observe facility conditions, and respond to operational needs in a fast-paced industrial environment. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
