ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Clinical Director provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for all clinical and therapeutic services across the organization. This position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the clinical team, ensuring that clinicians and clinical staff have the direction, supervision, resources, and support necessary to provide exceptional client care.
The Clinical Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, ethical, evidence-based, and compliant behavioral health services while fostering a collaborative, accountable, client-centered culture.
This position partners closely with executive leadership and is responsible for leading, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing the clinical team, while overseeing clinical operations, regulatory compliance, staff performance, program quality, clinical documentation, and continuous performance improvement.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
As Clinical Director, you will:
Clinical Leadership & Team Management- Lead, manage, and oversee the clinical and therapeutic team, providing clear direction, expectations, accountability, and support.
- Provide direct leadership and oversight to licensed clinicians, therapists, and other clinical staff.
- Mentor, supervise, evaluate, and develop clinical team members.
- Establish clear performance expectations and hold clinical staff accountable for professional standards, quality of care, documentation, and organizational policies.
- Conduct regular clinical team meetings, individual supervision, case consultation, and performance discussions.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, professionalism, clinical excellence, and continuous learning.
- Identify staff strengths, development opportunities, and training needs and implement strategies to strengthen the clinical team.
- Address clinical performance concerns promptly and collaborate with Human Resources regarding coaching, corrective action, performance improvement plans, and other employee relations matters.
- Serve as a visible and accessible clinical leader who supports staff while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and accountability.
- Provide ongoing clinical supervision to assigned clinical staff in accordance with applicable California licensing requirements and organizational standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain individualized clinical supervision plans based on licensure requirements, professional development needs, and clinical competencies.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clinical supervision.
- Provide case consultation and guidance regarding complex clinical presentations, treatment planning, risk assessment, crisis situations, and appropriate interventions.
- Support clinicians in developing sound clinical judgment and maintaining ethical and professional standards.
- Monitor supervision requirements and assist clinical staff in maintaining licensure and professional competency.
- Coordinate and facilitate at least 20 hours of annual in-service training for clinical staff, including clinical, regulatory, documentation, and professional development topics.
- Identify opportunities for ongoing education, leadership development, and advancement within the clinical team.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical and therapeutic services.
- Monitor and improve the quality of clinical care, including assessments, individual therapy, group therapy, treatment planning, progress documentation, discharge planning, and clinical coordination.
- Conduct regular clinical chart audits and provide feedback and coaching to clinicians to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant electronic health record documentation.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, documentation standards, treatment effectiveness, and adherence to established clinical practices.
- Develop and implement clinical policies, procedures, workflows, and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for program improvement and implement strategies to improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain Joint Commission and regulatory readiness.
- Ensure clinical services are delivered in accordance with applicable California laws, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, ethical standards, and organizational policies.
- Partner closely with executive leadership regarding clinical operations, staffing, program development, clinical quality, and organizational strategy.
- Collaborate with physicians, interventionists, referral partners, attorneys, consultants, community providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Work collaboratively with Business Development regarding site tours, referral relationships, and presentation of clinical programs and services.
- Participate in leadership meetings and contribute clinical expertise to organizational decision-making.
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives that strengthen clinical programming, staff performance, client outcomes, and organizational effectiveness.
- Serve as a clinical representative of the organization with internal and external stakeholders.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration between clinical, medical, operations, admissions, business development, and other departments.

Salaried, exempt $125,000 - $150,000 d.o.e
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS
Required- Master's or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field.
- Current California licensure as an LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, Licensed Psychologist, or equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year of direct supervisory experience managing and overseeing clinical services and/or clinical staff.
- Minimum one (1) year of direct clinical experience serving individuals with mental health disorders.
- At least two (2) years of experience or training in a mental health setting, including experience in program development for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, supervise, and develop a multidisciplinary clinical team.
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to provide effective clinical consultation and supervision.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, conflict-resolution, and documentation skills.
- Experience with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Health screening with negative TB clearance.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to be on-site to effectively lead and manage clinical operations and clinical staff.
- Completion of at least 20 hours of continuing education annually in mental health, administration, clinical supervision, or related fields.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining professionalism, composure, and sound clinical judgment.
- Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and adhering to OSHA, infection control, and all applicable regulatory standards.
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of clinical care and staff support.
