Paint Pump Operator

Paint Pump Operator (C‑14) Reports to: Paint Foreman Pay Range $29.00–$34.00 per hour DOE Location Portsmouth, VA Summary Operates marine coatings application equipment including plural and single component airless paint pumps. Maintains strict adherence to paint mixing using approved methods. Participates in the application of coatings using brushes and rollers. Maintains paint pumps per manufacturer instructions, SOPs, and direction of foreman and superintendents. Performs routine cleaning of work areas, equipment, and paint storage. Must follow directions concerning painting in the marine industry. May be required to perform additional duties as needed by supervisor for completion of the job in a safe and timely manner. Essential Responsibilities Monitor environmental parameters related to paint storage, paint application, and dry times. Assist in creation of containment methods to maintain environmental controls. Ensure surfaces are prepared for coating according to paint manufacturer specifications when using brush and roller applicators. Participate in striping of tank surfaces using approved methods. Adhere to OSHA and company, federal, state and local safety and environmental rules and regulations. Accurately operate, clean, and maintain all assigned equipment; properly store equipment and dispose of empty paint and solvent cans. Check wet film thickness (WFT) and assist sprayers in pulling lines. Follow clean shaven policy and may be required to wear respirator. Perform safety duties such as use of PPE, avoiding confined spaces, etc. Required Skills & Qualifications Preferred C‑14 Pump Operator credential. Ability to follow direction and work cooperatively with shipyard personnel. Knowledge of paint mixing, coating application, and equipment maintenance. Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental controls. Physical Requirements Regularly required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or crawl at various heights and in confined spaces. May be required to sit. Required to reach, use hands to feel, grip or handle. Regularly required to safely lift or move up to 50 pounds. Required use of vision to see up close, distance, and peripherally. Other Requirements Adheres to clean shaven policy. May be required to wear respirator. Must follow company safety and environmental rules.
