Senior Supervisory Accountant - DoD Finance & Compliance

Responsibilities Provide professional accounting services, management advice, and assistance to supported organizations and customers. Assist the employee in developing performance standards and major performance. Provide advice, counsel, and instructions on both technical and administrative matters. Review incoming, outgoing, and summary financial reports to ensure accuracy, reliability, and integrity of financial operations and reports from various customers. Examine internal control systems to ensure integrity, accuracy, and validity of reported financial data. Requirements for Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Background or Security Investigation – see Additional information for details. Registered with Selective Service (males born after 12‑31‑1959). Eligible for Federal employment. New employees require successful completion of the E‑Verify employment verification check. Must obtain and maintain a Level 2 certification under the DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification Program. Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a rare, case‑by‑case basis. Qualifications Applicants must have related financial experience and/or a related financial degree (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science). Substitution of education and experience must minimally satisfy the Department of Health Administration qualification requirement. Human Resources will determine qualification for each entry grade level based on interest and additional criteria. Resumes for federal positions should include detailed work descriptions and accomplishments. Positive Education Requirement Completion of a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 in business law); or a certificate such as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor. Qualification through a combination of education and experience: at least four years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college‑level education, and training, plus 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses (up to 6 hours in business law). Proof of education or certification must be submitted with the application. In addition to the basic requirement, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS‑12) in the Federal service, demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as: providing professional accounting services, advice, and assistance to an assigned area by applying accounting concepts, principles, and methods to accounting operations; or independently reviewing and analyzing complex situations, reports, policies, and procedures involving numerous appropriations and accounts within one or more accounting systems or subsystems. Volunteer experience, including paid and unpaid work through National Service programs and other organizations, will be considered and may provide credit toward qualification. Additional Information Moving expenses will be paid. Telework availability is limited and constrained to a rare, case‑by‑case basis. Selections are subject to restrictions resulting from the DoD Program for Stability of Civilian Employment. As a condition of employment, a one‑year probationary period will evaluate performance and conduct; employment is terminated if standards are not met. Travel requirement is seldom (1–24 %). This position is not covered by a bargaining unit. Veteran’s preference does not apply under this Direct Hire Authority. Security designation may vary and may require a secret clearance or higher; a background investigation is required. Must obtain Level 2 certification under the DoD FM Certification Program within two years of entry. Criminal history inquiries may not take place before conditional job offers.
