Position Overview

Our organization is looking for a faculty psychologist to become part of the interdisciplinary team at the Comprehensive Headache Center within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial evaluations.
• Design personalized treatment strategies.
• Deliver a wide array of evidence-based therapeutic interventions aimed at helping patients manage pain and stress, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
• Participate in interprofessional research focused on headache treatment.
• Provide training and supervision to psychology and medical trainees regarding psychosocial assessments and interventions for headache patients.

Qualifications

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• A solid foundation in clinical health psychology and integrated care for medically ill populations.
• A doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program, completion of an APA-accredited internship, and at least one year of supervised postdoctoral training.
• Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Georgia.
• Board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology is required within seven years of commencing this faculty role.
• Certification in biofeedback must be obtained within three years of starting this faculty appointment.

Desired Skills and Expertise

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of:

• Core principles and practices of health and pain psychology.
• Thorough biopsychosocial assessments for headaches and associated psychological disorders.
• Evidence-based therapeutic techniques (such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness therapies) to decrease headache frequency, alleviate pain, enhance functioning, and improve overall quality of life.
• Biofeedback and/or neurofeedback therapy for headache management (preferred but not mandatory).
• Evidence-based treatments for psychological disorders that may accompany headaches (including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, and bipolar disorder).
• Collaborative teamwork across disciplines.
