Operating Room Nurse

Assignment Duration

This is a contract position to cover a duration of 6 weeks.

Schedule

The shift for this position is from 7 AM to 5 PM, with weekend shifts from 7 AM to 3 PM as needed.

Job Description

The Operating Room Nurse will provide 1:1 patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures across various specialties including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Vascular, ENT, Ophthalmology, Urology, Endoscopy, and GYN. The role demands the ability to cater to patient needs from neonate to geriatric populations, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of surgical care protocols.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the operating room setting.
• Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
• Perform pre-operative and post-operative patient care focusing on psychosocial and physical aspects.
• Handle sterile items correctly and ensure proper documentation of surgical counts and specimens.
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding patient status.
• Maintain adherence to surgical standards, universal precautions, and departmental protocols.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification are required.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in the operating room is preferred.
