Designer - Bags
$80k - $85kLeSportsac
Job Description
We’re hiring a Designer - Bags to join the LeSportsac design team in New York.
\nThis role is for a designer who can think across product, print, color, and collaboration. You are someone who understands how to take an idea from concept through development and turn it into a product that feels both relevant and unmistakably LeSportsac.
\n \nYou’ll work closely with our Design Director and broader creative team across seasonal collections, new silhouettes, prints and graphics, collaborations, materials, and product development. We’re looking for someone with a strong point of view, a deep understanding of bags and construction, and the ability to balance creativity with commercial thinking.
\n \nSuccess in this role means translating LeSportsac's creative direction into bags that are distinctive, functional, commercially relevant, and recognizably LeSportsac. The Designer should be able to take a product from an initial sketch through CAD, technical development, print and material execution, sample review, and final approval while maintaining the integrity of the original idea.
\n \nThe strongest person in this role should be equally comfortable designing a new silhouette, building a detailed tech pack, developing a print application, reviewing a factory sample, solving a construction issue, or executing a collaboration. They should understand both the creative vision of the collection and the technical discipline required to bring that vision into production.
\n \nThis is a fully in-office position in New York.
\n \nDescription:
\n \nThe Designer - Bags is responsible for the design and development of seasonal bag collections, prints, graphics, collaborations, and specialty product initiatives. Reporting to the Design Director, this role translates seasonal creative direction, merchandising objectives, global market trends, and LeSportsac's brand heritage into compelling, functional, and commercially relevant product. Experience with Asia Markets is a plus.
\nThe Designer works across the full product lifecycle. The role works closely with the Design Director, Creative Director, Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, Production, and external partners to ensure that creative intent is carried consistently from initial concept through finished product. They combine a strong point of view in fashion and accessories with a detailed understanding of bag construction, print and surface design, materials, color, and product development.
\n \nResponsibilities:
\n \n- \n
- Partner with the Design Director and Creative Director to research, conceptualize, and develop seasonal bag collections, collaborations, capsules, and specialty projects. \n
- Design and develop bags across multiple classifications, translating seasonal direction and merchandising needs into compelling silhouettes, constructions, materials, colors, prints, and functional details. \n
- Manage assigned styles throughout the design process, from initial concept and sketch through CAD development, technical specifications, sampling, revisions, and final design approval. \n
- Create accurate product CADs, technical drawings, tech packs, and design specifications that clearly communicate construction, measurements, materials, trims, hardware, artwork placement, etc. \n
- Manage execution of seasonal prints, graphics, repeat patterns, placed artwork, colorways, and surface treatments by managing outside resources, creating designs, and preparing production-ready artwork. \n
- Review prototypes, development samples, strike-offs, materials, trims, hardware, and color submissions; provide clear comments and revisions to ensure brand standards are maintained. \n
- Partner with Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, Production, Sales, and Creative throughout the development process to resolve construction, costing, material, MOQ, timing, and production challenges. \n
- Support the development and selection of seasonal materials, hardware, trims, color palettes, and construction techniques while balancing creative direction, functionality, target cost, and commercial opportunity. \n
- Develop collaboration and licensed product, translating partner artwork, intellectual property, graphics, and brand codes into product while supporting presentations, approvals, revisions, and communication with external partners. \n
- Maintain accurate seasonal design tools and documentation, including product CADs, technical packages, style decks, line information, artwork files, print/color references, and design revisions. \n
- Participate in seasonal concept reviews, line reviews, sample reviews, costing discussions, and product presentations; communicate product changes, approvals, and development priorities clearly across teams. \n
- Maintain awareness of global fashion, accessories, art, culture, consumer behavior, and competitive trends, identifying opportunities to evolve existing brand icons and introduce relevant new product ideas. \n
- Other duties as assigned \n
Experience:
\n \n- \n
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Accessories Design, Industrial Design, or a related field preferred, with 3–5+ years of relevant design experience. \n
- Demonstrated experience designing handbags, accessories, soft goods, or related product from concept through development and production. \n
- Strong understanding of bag construction, materials, trims, hardware, manufacturing techniques, and the product development process. \n
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, with strong CAD, technical drawing, sketching, and presentation skills; InDesign proficiency preferred. \n
- Strong eye for silhouette, proportion, color, print, materials, graphics, and overall product execution. \n
- Experience developing prints, patterns, graphics, technical specifications, and production-ready design packages. \n
- Strong understanding of global fashion, accessories, consumer, and cultural trends, with the ability to translate relevant insights into commercially compelling product. \n
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet development timelines, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners. \n
- Experience working with factories, Product Development, and international manufacturing partners preferred; collaboration or licensed-product experience is a plus. \n
- Ability to travel as required. \n
LeSportsac offers a competitive benefits package, including:
\n \n- \n
- $80K - $85K Base Pay \n
- Inclusive of bonus opportunities \n
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance \n
- 401(k) plan with company match \n
- Paid time off (PTO) \n
- Paid company holidays \n
- Employee product discount \n
LeSportsac is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
\n \nApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States; we are unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time.
