Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardiac Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience License: Current RN license Certifications: Telemetry certification required; must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a Dysrhythmia Exam on the first attempt Must-Have: Must have a strong cardiac background Must have experience with cardiac drips including Insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin Chest tube experience is required Experience with heart failure, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and cardiac procedures such as catheterizations and stent placements Description: This position requires a strong cardiac-focused nursing background in a high-acuity environment. Nurses will be responsible for a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5. Expect a high level of patient acuity along with frequent admissions and discharges. Significant procedural volume will be encountered on this unit. Candidates must be able to independently interpret cardiac rhythms and will need to pass a Dysrhythmia Exam. No technical assistance will be permitted during this examination. The exam will be paper-based and proctored, requiring the use of calipers. Candidates should review Telemetry Study Guides in preparation. Common patient populations include those with heart failure, atrial fibrillation, fluid volume overload, and hypertension. Nurses may float to similar cardiac/PCU units as needed, but will not float to monitor tech positions. Familiarity with telemetry interpretation and cardiac drips is essential for success in this role. Heart transplant and LVAD experience is preferred, with training available if needed. A rating of "4" is expected on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist. Candidates will need to manage right and left heart catheterizations, sheath removals, and valve replacement procedures. Successful candidates will exhibit competency in handling high-acuity cardiac patients and the associated challenges.
