About the Role:

The SCO Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by delivering comprehensive clinical and administrative assistance within a medical setting. This position ensures the smooth operation of patient care activities by preparing patients for examinations, recording vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures. The Medical Assistant acts as a liaison between patients and healthcare professionals, facilitating effective communication and ensuring patient comfort and safety. Additionally, the role involves managing medical records, scheduling appointments, and handling billing and insurance documentation to support efficient clinic operations. Ultimately, the SCO Medical Assistant contributes to high-quality patient care and enhances the overall healthcare experience for patients and staff alike.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in ambulatory or outpatient care.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures specific to SCO (Specialty Care Operations).
• Familiarity with insurance billing and coding practices.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Additional certifications such as phlebotomy or EKG technician credentials.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs, medical histories, and recording symptoms.
• Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and minor procedures by providing necessary instruments and support.
• Manage patient records, including updating medical charts and entering data into electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately.
• Schedule patient appointments, coordinate referrals, and handle patient inquiries both in person and via telephone.
• Perform administrative tasks such as billing, coding, and processing insurance claims to ensure proper reimbursement.
• Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
• Educate patients on medication instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up care as directed by healthcare providers.

The SCO Medical Assistant utilizes clinical skills daily to accurately measure and record patient vital signs, assist with examinations, and support minor medical procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort. Administrative skills are essential for managing patient records, scheduling, and processing billing and insurance documentation efficiently, which helps maintain smooth clinic operations. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems enables the Medical Assistant to document patient information accurately and retrieve data quickly for healthcare providers.
