Principal Library Assistant

Principal Library Assistant, Thayer Public Library (Braintree) Performs any variety of specialized library duties under the direct supervision of the Librarian, Library Director, and Assistant Library Director. Acts as second in charge of respective departments, assisting supervisors in meeting department goals. Supervises Senior and Junior Library Assistants in completing work assignments. Makes frequent contact with the general public, provides basic reader’s advisory and referral, and promotes a positive image of the library. Receives and records fines, counts fine money, and prepares weekly deposits. Orders and processes library materials of all types, collections, and levels. Assists in resolving vendor discrepancies and may repair damaged materials or send to vendor for repairs. Orders and maintains supplies. Prints and executes reports. Assists Circulation Supervisor in preparation of delinquent borrower lists and related reports, including overdue bills, patron claims, and in maintaining records of circulation. Maintains circulation and technical service files using manual and electronic systems. Participates in reference and specialized library services, including programming. Works in various locations throughout the library. Qualifications Associate’s Degree and two years of library experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Precise attention to detail and an ability to function in a highly organized and accountable manner are mandatory.
