Role Description The Direct Support Professional role is an on‑site position based in Toms River, NJ. In this role, you will provide hands‑on support to adults with developmental disabilities in their daily routines, including personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders (as permitted), and assistance with household tasks. You will help individuals build life skills, participate in community activities, and work toward personal goals that foster independence and self‑advocacy. You will also document services provided, follow individualized support plans, and collaborate with supervisors and team members to ensure consistent, person‑centered care. This position involves maintaining a safe, respectful environment, modeling positive behavior, and communicating clearly with individuals, families, and other care providers. Qualifications Background or strong interest in Human Services and supporting individuals with Intellectual Disabilities. Well‑developed interpersonal skills and communication abilities, including active listening and clear, respectful dialogue. Willingness to participate in ongoing training related to direct support, safety, and person‑centered practices. High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or certification in social services, special education, or related fields is a plus. Ability to assist with physical tasks as needed, follow care plans, and maintain accurate documentation. Reliable, patient, and compassionate approach, with consistent attendance and punctuality. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, if transportation support is required.
