Diesel Mechanic

Diesel MechanicDiesel Mechanics perform varied tasks that may involve physical labor for repair to heavy equipment, over the road tractors, trailers and automobiles. They may operate a variety of equipment including hand and power tools. The mechanic may be required to work at a construction job site, along highways or in a garage setting. This is a 2nd shift position.Diesel Mechanics must have good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and balance. They must also be able to read and understand warning signs and labels on a construction site, be able to read and interpret repair manuals, drawings and written instructions or specifications. They should be capable of working as a member of a team and have basic problem-solving and math skills. They must possess the knowledge and ability to operate and repair equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Must be able to operate and utilize computer software to diagnose problems and apply findings to repair equipment. Should be familiar with Cat and Cummins power units, air systems and ABS brake controls.Diesel Mechanic Duties & Responsibilities:Follow directions and instructions of shop supervisorAbility to complete required documentation when neededAbility to troubleshoot problems with minimal assistanceUse maintenance related equipment, powered, mechanical and hand toolsPerform other related duties incidental to the work described hereinPhysical Requirements:Meet D.L. George & Sons medical, drug and alcohol qualificationsAbility to operate in an outside environment up to 12 hours per day, 40-50 hours per weekWork may require standing, sitting, climbing or walking on uneven surfacesMay be required to work at elevation or in a confined spaceHandle material weighing up to 50 pounds with minimal assistanceMay be required to work in adverse weather; wind, heat, rain or snowSafety Equipment:Safety glassesHard HatSteel Toe ShoesD.L.
