Job Description

The duties of an anesthesiologist include the care of a patient during the perioperative period. An anesthesiologist also serves as a subject matter expert for the facility in airway management, anesthetic/sedation drug management, and pain management. VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is an intermediate complexity facility with a diverse inpatient and outpatient population. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation for patients of all ages in the perioperative or periprocedural period
• Serve as an expert in airway management including specialized techniques such as fiberoptic bronchoscopy, video laryngoscopy, and one lung ventilation
• Use specialized equipment including, but not limited to specialized monitoring devices, laryngoscopes, bronchoscopes, ventilators, and ultrasounds
• Exercise command of medical and surgical care as provided by law and regulations
• Participate in quality assurance projects/patient safety initiatives in the department and facility
• Provide daily guidance on operating room scheduling and flow
• Maintain confidentiality of all health information and records according to Federal guidelines and regulation
• Consultations and follow-up in both the outpatient and inpatient areas
