Research Assistant I

The research assistant should have experience collecting samples on the farm and processing them in the laboratory, according to the research. The analyses can include fecal egg count, packed cell volume, ELISA , glucose tolerance test, DNA test, and others. Assist with research activities: – Collect research data (weights, parasite data, heat stress data) – Collect research samples (blood, semen, feces, forages) – Process research samples (centrifugation, freezing, refrigeration). The research assistant will collect, label, and store samples in the laboratory and keep records and an inventory of them. Maintain laboratories and research supply storage, organized and updated. Prepare the supplies for data collection days. Inform the program leader of any low stock supply. Perform data entry and basic graphs. The research assistant must participate and help with the animal feeding protocol under research. Assist with workshops, seminars, or tours related to the Animal Science Program. Assist the field staff with the research task. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science Degree Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands While performing the job duties, the employee will be required to work outdoors in hot weather. This position requires the employee to be able to lift 30 lbs (feed sack). Work environment: The noise level in the work environment will be moderate. The work environment is a mix of outdoors and indoors.
