Transportation DirectorLocation: Cedar Rapids, IA Company: To The Rescue Reports To: Executive Director Schedule: Full-Time | Varies Based on Operational NeedsAbout the RoleTo The Rescue is seeking a Transportation Director to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of our Transportation Division.This role is responsible for fleet management, driver oversight, safety, and operational performance, ensuring individuals we serve have reliable and safe transportation. You'll play a key leadership role in building a strong team, improving processes, and supporting organizational growth.If you're a hands-on leader who can balance people leadership, logistics, and compliance, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a mission-driven organization.Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & LeadershipLead daily operations of the Transportation Division to meet organizational goalsCollaborate with executive leadership to support strategic growth and service deliveryDevelop and implement processes, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and performanceCreate and execute action plans to meet departmental and organizational objectivesTeam Management & DevelopmentHire, train, coach, and evaluate transportation staff, including driversEnsure all employees complete required training throughout their roleProvide ongoing feedback, coaching, and performance managementPartner with HR on staffing, employee relations, and retention effortsFleet Management & MaintenanceOversee the full fleet of company vehicles, including vans and busesEnsure routine maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs are completedProvide recommendations on fleet needs, replacements, and improvementsPerform minor vehicle maintenance as neededSafety, Risk & ComplianceLead and enforce transportation safety programs and best practicesServe as a liaison for risk management, identifying and mitigating potential risksEnsure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and billing requirementsMaintain knowledge of relevant laws, safety standards, and privacy regulationsWhat We're Looking ForStrong leadership experience managing teams in transportation, logistics, or related fieldsAbility to balance operations, compliance, and people leadershipExcellent communication skills with the ability to lead, coach, and direct staffHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesComfortable making decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentBasic QualificationsValid driver's license and ability to meet agency insurance requirementsAbility to operate company vehicles, including non-CDL 15-passenger vans/busesProficiency with Google Workspace and ability to learn scheduling and timekeeping systemsPreferred QualificationsExperience in transportation, fleet management, or logistics leadershipFamiliarity with safety programs, compliance standards, and auditing practicesExperience working in human services, healthcare, or a mission-driven organizationWork Environment & ScheduleSchedule will vary based on operational needs and may include evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilitiesThis role may require hours beyond a standard 8-hour workdayWork includes both office-based responsibilities and hands-on involvement with fleet and staffWhat We OfferLeadership role with meaningful impact on daily operations and community servicesOpportunity to build and lead a growing transportation teamCollaborative, mission-driven work environmentProfessional growth and development opportunitiesTo The Rescue is an equal opportunity employer.
