Role Description The Staff Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Decatur, AL. This role is responsible for assisting with tax preparation, financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliations for individuals and businesses. The Staff Accountant helps ensure the accuracy and timeliness of accounting records, supports month-end and year-end close processes, and assists with payroll and sales tax filings as needed. The role includes communicating with clients to gather information, respond to questions, and provide clear explanations of tax and accounting matters. The Staff Accountant collaborates with partners and team members to deliver high-quality, client-focused service and supports ongoing improvements to firm processes and tools. Qualifications Strong knowledge of accounting principles, including general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliations. Experience or coursework in tax preparation for individuals and businesses, with familiarity in federal and state tax laws and regulations. Proficiency with accounting and tax software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar platforms) and solid Excel skills for analysis and reporting. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly and interact professionally with clients and colleagues. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment and demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and responsiveness in client service. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; progress toward CPA licensure or interest in obtaining CPA certification is a plus.
