Title: VeterinarianReports to: Chief Operations OfficerCreated on: March 2026Status: Exempt – 4 days/week, 10 hours max/day; 1 Saturday per month preferred but negotiable (as part of the 4 days)Salary Range: $90,000-$105,000 Position Summary:Primary functions include providing the highest quality of veterinary care and client education on a daily basis, performing spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, medical assessments, treatments and procedures to improve and ensure the health of Tulsa SPCA animals and animals belonging to members of the public when accessing our public services. The Veterinarian is responsible for the daily care of all surgical patients, ensuring all staff members adhere to proper care of patients. Position will include high volume, high quality spay/neuter surgery and include vaccination or preventative care clinics. This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. Primary Accountabilities:Achieve Organizational ResultsProvide veterinary medical care at Tulsa SPCA.Perform spay/neuter surgeries – 40%Perform dentals/other surgeries – 10%Perform low-cost, public vaccination clinics weekly – 40% Shelter medicine and emergency care – 10%Use/make evidence based medicine, treatments and diagnosesStay up to date on current research to provide excellent, prompt and current treatment regimensMaintain proper storage, recordkeeping, and dispensing of controlled substances in compliance with DEA and state regulations.Work with Director of Clinic Servies to develop protocols to ensure a clean, healthy environment is maintainedWork with other staff to develop and implement program goals, objectives and outcome measurements that are consistent with the long-term strategic plan of the shelterPromote and support Fear Free and low-stress animal handling practices across all departments.Coach and mentor staff and volunteers on the day-to-day job requirements/expectationsWork with public/staff/volunteers Help staff achieve a better understanding of the medical needs of animalsHelp staff and volunteers grow in their knowledge of recognizing common shelter diseasesDaily responsibilities and delegations are communicated to appropriate staffAll computer and hard copy documentation is performed within 24 hoursEducate staff in appropriate, skilled and humane animal handling techniquesProfessional and mutually beneficial relationships with partners are maintainedStaff Leadership and DirectionProvide excellent customer service to clientsWork collaboratively with the executive and leadership team to ensure shelter goals are achieved Assist in fostering a workplace that results in the development of a high performing team of professionals and staff. Resolve conflicts, and ensure that all assistants perform their functions in a manner consistent with organizational policies, procedures, and best practices associated with their respective disciplines.External RelationshipsContribute to the success of the Tulsa SPCA as a whole. Working with others on executive and leadership team(s)Assist as necessary with any public relations and community education/outreach activitiesInternal RelationshipsPromote positive, collaborative relationships between Tulsa SPCA departmentsCollaborate with other staff to coordinate training for new hires and volunteersWork with Clinic Manager and Cruelty Investigator on cruelty casesMeet regularly with others on the executive and leadership team(s) to review procedures, reports, problems and discuss new strategies.Compliance and AccreditationBe currently licensed and maintain an Oklahoma Veterinary Medical LicenseMust hold a current DEA licensePractice ethical Veterinary Medicine at all timesComply with the Oklahoma Veterinary Practice ActEnsure compliance with all regulatory, safety, security and operational standards related to animal care and the practice of Veterinary Medicine with respect to healthcare, daily maintenance, impounding, behavior modification/enrichment and euthanasia – including limiting the practice of Veterinary Medicine to licensed VeterinariansEnsure all animal care services performed through the Tulsa SPCA meet or exceed all best practices and professional standards, and are consistent with client expectationsStay abreast of current animal welfare issues, regulations, standards, best practices, etc. as well as the changing needs of the communityMaintain professional competency through continuing education and professional development.StewardshipAct as a principal steward of the organization's resources. Ensure that all of the Tulsa SPCA's resources are utilized properly, legally & ethically, and that all those entrusted to manage or represent the affairs of the organization are properly directed and highly effective.Uphold the mission, values, and principles of the organization at all times. Ensure all business endeavors and relationships as well as the individual performance of each direct report are consistent with the organization's mission, values, policies and goals.Primary Tasks and DutiesPerform spay/neuter surgeries (shelter animals and the public)Perform low-cost, public vaccination clinics as neededTrain and teach staff and volunteers where appropriateAct as medical spokesperson for the Tulsa SPCA with the mediaPerform routine and emergency veterinary medical careWork with staff to ensure that all duties are carried outPosition Requirements:Physical EnvironmentWork is both indoors and outside and can be exposed to heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, and a variety of conditions including humidity and dust.Travel to area events/locations in year-round weather conditions is possible.Use of computer, keyboard, telephone, copy machines, and fax machines.Will be exposed to animal smells, fumes, chemicals, cleaning supplies, airborne particles, parasites, pests, zoonotic diseases and sharp objects.Will work with and be exposed to a variety of animals (some may be sick, injured and/or vicious) and animal waste.Animal bites and/or scratches are possible.Must be able to lift (to waist height) and carry 50 lbs.Repetitive movements such as bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, standing, and other similar activities are required.Ability to hear, talk, use hand dexterity required. Additionally, specific visual abilities, including close vision and ability to adjust focus is required.Noise level is moderate to high.Education/Professional ExperienceDVM degree required with active and current Oklahoma license
