Have you ever thought about starting your own tax practice?

A lot of good tax people have. Most never do it, because of what it takes to start: finding clients, buying software, chasing documents, doing your own admin and marketing, all on an income that starts at zero and with nobody to share the load.

We're offering a different way in. Zoar Finance already has the clients, the team and the systems. What we're missing is the person who will build our tax practice into the one they would have built for themselves.

A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

I built Zoar into a firm of six serving small businesses and their owners across the US, mostly with monthly accounting: bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax and month-end close. Along the way we've expanded into providing tax services. I want someone who knows tax and can take it from here and make it theirs. I'll keep selling and bringing in the work. You'll decide how the practice runs.

WHAT YOU'D HAVE ON DAY ONE

• A book of business already in place from clients who already trust us: individual 1040s, S corporations, partnerships, C corporations, and the occasional nonprofit or trust return.

• Room to grow right away: dozens of our monthly accounting clients file their returns somewhere else today.

• A founder who sells and brings you the work, so you don't have to hunt for clients on day one.

• A tax coordinator who handles document collection and client logistics with you.

• Systems already in place: Intuit ProConnect for preparation, Soraban for organizers, documents and signatures, and a team running bookkeeping, payroll and billing behind you.

• Steady pay from the first month, and a firm 40-hour weekly cap during tax season.

WHAT YOU'D BUILD

• The practice itself: how returns flow, how clients are served, what a great tax season looks like here.

• Pricing and fees within firm policy, which clients we keep, and when we extend.

• Planning and advisory offerings for the business owners we already serve.

• The numbers: you'll see the tax practice's revenue, hours and margin, and you'll be accountable for them.

• The team, as the practice grows.

• Your own book: clients you bring in and manage earn you a revenue share.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF

• You hold an active EA or CPA license and a PTIN.

• You have 4+ years preparing individual and pass-through returns for small businesses and their owners, including multi-state returns, 1065s, 1120s, 1120-S, etc.

• You've pictured running your own practice, or you've already run one and don't want to do it alone anymore.

• You fix what's broken without being asked, and you think about a return's price, hours and profit, not just whether it's correct.

• Business owners find you clear and easy to work with.

THIS ISN'T FOR YOU IF

• You'd rather someone else made the decisions and handed you the next return.

SCHEDULE, PAY AND OWNERSHIP

• About 1,000 hours a year, salaried or hourly (we'll work out what suits you), or full-time if you prefer. We'll schedule returns through the season and use extensions on purpose, instead of cramming everything before March and April 15.

• Compensation is negotiable, depending on work preference.

• A retention bonus after your first tax season.

• A revenue share on clients you bring in and manage, with the terms in writing.

• A written, earned path to equity in the firm, tied to milestones such as the size of the practice, client retention and margin.

• Paid time off and a retirement plan.
