Production Associate

The Production Associate supports steel fabrication operations by deburring and grinding cut steel pieces using hand tools and power tools. This role focuses on producing clean, precise parts while maintaining a safe and efficient work area in a busy fabrication shop.

Responsibilities

  • Deburr and grind down cut pieces of steel to remove sharp edges, burrs, and imperfections.
  • Operate grinding tools, including a flapper disk tool running at approximately 11,000 RPM, in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Use hand tools, such as hand chisels, to refine and finish steel components as required.
  • Perform general labor tasks in the production area to support overall workflow and output.
  • Assist with basic machine operating tasks as directed to support steel fabrication processes.
  • Assemble components or parts as needed to meet production requirements.
  • Inspect finished pieces for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, and correct issues when identified.
  • Troubleshoot minor issues with tools, equipment, or workpieces and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper handling of tools and materials.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate equipment to work safely in a hot, cold, dusty, and loud environment.

Essential Skills

  • Experience using hand tools in a production or industrial setting.
  • Ability to safely operate grinding tools, including flapper disk tools running at high RPM.
  • Background in general labor within a manufacturing, production, or fabrication environment.
  • Basic machine operating experience in a shop or production setting.
  • Production and assembly experience with metal or similar materials.
  • Inspection skills to evaluate finished parts for quality and accuracy.
  • Troubleshooting ability to identify and address basic issues with tools, equipment, or parts.
  • Comfort working in hot, cold, dusty, dirty, and loud environments.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a steel fabrication shop or metalworking environment.
  • Familiarity with grinding and finishing techniques for steel components.
  • Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including standing for long periods and handling steel materials.
  • Strong attention to detail to produce clean, consistent finishes on steel parts.
  • Willingness to learn new tools and processes in a production setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a steel fabrication shop that can be hot or cold depending on the season and conditions. The environment is dusty, dirty, and loud, with ongoing grinding, cutting, and fabrication activities. You will work with steel materials and use tools such as a high-speed flapper disk grinder and hand chisels. The setting is industrial and hands-on, requiring appropriate work attire suitable for a fabrication shop and adherence to all safety practices and protective equipment requirements.

This is a Contract position based out of Louisville, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
