Local Contract - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN | Night Shift Shift Details

• Shift hours: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
• Shift type: Night Shift
• Weekend requirement: Every third weekend

Unit Overview

• 18-bed, high-acuity, fast-paced Progressive Care Unit
• Cares for patients who require a higher level of monitoring and intervention than a traditional telemetry unit but do not require ICU-level care
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, based on patient acuity
• Patient turnover can be significant, with as much as three-quarters of the unit turning over within a 24-hour period
• Candidates should be comfortable working in a busy environment with frequent admissions, transfers, and patient downgrades
• No floating required

Patient Population & Clinical Experience
The PCU cares for a diverse, medically complex patient population. Nurses may care for patients including:

• Post cardiac catheterization
• Post myocardial infarction (MI)
• Post cardiac stent placement
• Post cardiac ablation
• TAVR patients
• Watchman procedure patients
• Stable post-open-heart patients after line removal
• Patients requiring transvenous pacemakers
• Respiratory failure patients
• Patients requiring BiPAP
• Patients receiving insulin drips
• Kidney and other organ failure patients
• Patients experiencing alcohol or drug withdrawal

Ideal Candidate

• Experienced PCU RN comfortable managing high-acuity patients in a fast-moving environment
• Able to efficiently manage a 1:3 assignment
• Able to adapt to frequent admissions, transfers, and changes in patient status

Scheduling Requirements

• 12-hour night shifts: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
• Every third weekend
• Holiday coverage will be based on unit staffing needs; at least one holiday will be required
• Extended vacation during the hospital's holiday blackout period (12/23 - 1/3) cannot be accommodated, although an individual holiday off may be considered

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• BSN required
• Active Pennsylvania RN license or Compact RN license
• BLS/CPR required
• ACLS required
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, high-turnover PCU environment
