Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, focuses on the prevention of illness and injury, and alleviates suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human responses. The RN advocates for individuals and families while being responsible for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development according to the New York State Nurse Practice Act, organizational policies, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients, serving as a primary or accountable nurse based on unit assignment and considerations related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact.
• Educate patients and their families in health promotion and disease management utilizing available resources.
• Administer medications safely according to organizational policy with an understanding of pharmacology.
• Contribute to productivity and resource utilization, including staffing, time management, and supply management.
• Ensure compliance with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Participate actively in the Nursing Shared Governance Model, supporting the Unit Council and engaging in quality improvement initiatives.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and complete all mandatory education requirements.
• Incorporate nursing research and current evidence into practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
• Adhere to organizational values and perform other assigned duties as necessary.

Required Skills & Experience

• Ranging from six (6) months to three (3) years of nursing (RN) experience.
• Management experience ranging from zero (0) to three (3) years.
• Five plus (5+) years of direct clinical experience.
• Strong collaboration skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
• Judgment and critical thinking skills.
• Organizational understanding and planning skills, including time management.
• Problem-solving aptitude.
• Commitment to quality and reliability.
• Knowledge of safety and risk management.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education

• Required Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Certifications & Licensure

• Required: Current New York State RN License and BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Preferred: Professional certification in a related nursing specialty and relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.

Schedule Notes

This position involves working nights on a four (4) by ten (10) hour shift schedule. Candidates should be comfortable titrating vasoactive drips such as cleviprex and levophed and managing sedation for ventilated patients, using medications like Precedex and Propofol, which may sometimes be administered concurrently.
