WELLNESS INSTRUCTOR - Shelby County Branch Shelby County YMCA, Shelbyville, IN, US 5 days ago Requisition ID: 1040 Decatur Shelby County YMCA Job Description Job Title: Wellness Instructor Original Date: 05/15/2025 Revised Date: Reports To: Director of Wellness Basic Functions and Scope of Responsibility The Wellness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, engaging, and effective group fitness classes that cater to a variety of fitness levels and abilities. The instructor creates a motivating and inclusive environment while promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging participant retention and satisfaction. Role Responsibilities Plan and lead group fitness classes (e.g., HIIT, yoga, cycling, strength training, Zumba) in accordanc e with scheduled formats. Pro vide modifications and progressions to accommodate different skill levels. Deliver clear instructions and demonstrations to ensure proper form and technique. Monitor participants during classes and respond to safety concerns or injuries. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the group fitness area and equipment. Foster a positive, welcoming environment for all members and guests. Support association-wide initiatives and assume other duties as assigned. Education, Experience & Training Must be at least 18 years of age. A knowledge of basic exercise science, biomechanics principles and fitness class leadership are required. High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Current group exercise certification re quired Specialized training required for specific classes CPR,AED and First Aid certification obtained within30 days of employment Previous group instruction experience preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
