Director of Sales - Building & Construction # 0610

Our client, a respected and established premium manufacturer, is seeking a Director of Sales to lead an important revenue channel within the building and construction space. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a commercially minded executive who can both cultivate major client relationships and lead a team with accountability, direction, and confidence. The successful candidate will step into an existing portfolio of established accounts and a team that is ready for strong leadership.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of the production home builder environment, a track record of securing and protecting large-scale contracts, and the ability to lead effectively through growth and change. The position is primarily based on-site and includes regional travel.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Leadership
- Represent the client at industry gatherings, builder forums, and relevant market events
- Monitor housing activity, market dynamics, and competitive trends across the region to support commercial decision-making
- Build and expand relationships with key production builder and developer accounts throughout the Greater Bay Area
- Identify and secure new partnerships with builders and emerging participants in the market
Sales Strategy & Revenue Growth
- Develop option and upgrade programs designed to increase average project value
- Lead pricing and bid strategy for early-stage and conceptual opportunities
- Own revenue goals, account growth plans, and forward-looking pipeline strategy
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure customer commitments align with operational capabilities
Pricing & Margin Strategy
- Analyse market feedback and win/loss trends to improve bid effectiveness
- Partner with Finance and senior leadership on broader pricing and commercial strategy
- Establish and manage structured pricing frameworks that support gross margin objectives
Leadership & Team Development
- Foster a culture centred on accountability, performance, ownership, and professional development
- Partner cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, and Finance to support accurate bidding and smooth execution
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 10 direct and indirect reports
Forecasting & Performance Management
- Track and report on core KPIs, including shipped revenue, gross margin, win rate, and average job value
- Own the Production Sales forecast and overall revenue outlook
Requirements
- Strong financial and commercial acumen
- Proven success delivering multi-million dollar revenue growth
- 8+ years of progressive B2B sales leadership experience within building products, construction, manufacturing, or a closely related sector
- Demonstrated ability to lead upward effectively and operate confidently through leadership transitions
- Strong executive presence with excellent communication and relationship-building skills, particularly at the builder/developer level
- Expertise in pricing strategy, bid management, and margin optimisation
- 2+ years of people leadership experience with a clear ability to build teams and drive accountability
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing-to-order or engineered-to-order environments
- Background in cabinetry, millwork, or a related building product category
- Direct sales experience with production or luxury home builders
- Familiarity with the Greater Bay Area builder and developer landscape
- Experience working with option-based or highly customisable product offerings
- Experience operating within complex founder-led or ownership-transition environments
- BS/BA in a related field preferred, though not required
Benefits
Base Salary: $190,000 – $250,000 per year
Actual offer will be determined based on experience and qualifications. In compliance with the California Pay Transparency Law (SB 1162), the full pay range for this role is disclosed above.
This position offers a strong, stable base salary complemented by a company performance bonus - there is no commission structure.
