Position Overview and Objective:

The Driver Training Center Coordinator plays a crucial role in shaping the safety and efficiency of our transportation operations by designing, executing, and managing thorough training initiatives for all personnel involved in passenger vehicle transportation and operation. This position requires an in-depth understanding of industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices as outlined by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). The Coordinator will ensure that every training program not only fully complies with USDOT guidelines but also actively enhances the company's safety culture and operational excellence. By developing, implementing, and continuously improving comprehensive training programs, the Coordinator ensures that all employees are fully equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to perform their duties safely, efficiently, and in line with company and regulatory standards. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Training Program Development
  • Design and develop training programs that cover all aspects of passenger vehicle transportation, including safety protocols, operational procedures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure that training materials are up-to-date and reflect the latest USDOT regulations and industry's best practices.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to create engaging and effective training content.
• Training Delivery
  • Oversee the delivery of training programs through various methods, including in-person sessions, online courses, and hands-on workshops.
  • Ensure that training sessions are conducted by qualified instructors and that all training materials are accessible to employees.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
• Compliance, Safety, and Ownership
  • Ensure that all training programs comply with USDOT regulations and requirements.
  • Develop and implement safety training programs that address the specific risks and challenges associated with passenger vehicle transportation.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Employee Development
  • Identify training needs and opportunities for employee development and career advancement.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to employees to help them achieve their professional goals.
  • Develop and implement succession planning programs to ensure a pipeline of qualified candidates for key positions.
• Performance Management
  • Establish performance metrics and benchmarks to measure the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide feedback to help employees improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of training programs and make recommendations for improvements.
• Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with other departments, including operations, safety, and human resources, to ensure that training programs align with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Communicate training goals and objectives to employees and stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the organization.

• Operate with a comprehensive understanding of public transit systems and their safety requirements.
• Collaborate effectively with regulatory agencies, understanding their functions and authority to ensure compliance.
• Implement transportation safety management and engineering principles to advance safety standards.
• Prepare and execute emergency response policies and procedures confidently under pressure.
• Stay informed about relevant laws, codes, and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
• Leverage office software such as Word, Excel, and Access to enhance reporting and data management.
• Lead and participate in managing a comprehensive transportation safety program to achieve organizational excellence.
• Investigate accidents and incidents swiftly and thoroughly, providing actionable insights.
• Respond to emergencies in all weather conditions and times, demonstrating flexibility and reliability.
• Adapt to changing situations with minimal supervision, maintaining focus on safety priorities.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of division goals, objectives, and procedures.
• Read and interpret technical schematic diagrams and plans to inform safety measures.
• Apply critical thinking to analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
• Research, evaluate, and implement innovative service delivery methods and safety techniques.
• Build broad operational knowledge and experience across organizational functions.
• Interpret and apply pertinent policies, laws, and regulations to ensure compliance.

• Prepare clear, concise, and impactful reports to communicate safety findings and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation, or a related field. Position-related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of a degree. Applicants without a degree should include a statement detailing their qualifying experience with the application.
• Four (4) years of verifiable, full-time professional training and safety experience, preferably in the transportation industry.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of USDOT regulations and requirements for passenger vehicle transportation.
• Exhibit strong leadership and management capabilities, with a proven ability to motivate and inspire teams.
• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with others.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher) and training software and tools.
• Be willing to travel occasionally to various locations for training sessions and assessments.
• Be prepared to work outside regular business hours when necessary to support training schedules.
• Must be an excellent communicator with strong listening skills, build strong relationships, be flexible and open-minded, negotiate effectively, solicit performance feedback, and manage constructive criticism.
• Skilled in computer use, able to adapt to new technology, stay abreast of changes, learn new programs quickly, and use technology to improve productivity.
• Ability to create training material for both in-person and virtual instruction.
• Valid driver's license and access to a properly insured vehicle

Required License and/or Certification

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid Hawaii Commercial Class B driver's license with air brakes, passenger, and student endorsements. If not currently a commercial license holder, the successful applicant must obtain, at a minimum, a Hawaii Commercial Class B driver's license with air brakes, passenger, and student endorsements within the 6-month probationary period. Must have a satisfactory driving record.
• Pursuant to 49 CFR Part 672, the selected candidate must enroll in the Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCP) and successfully complete the training courses within the three-year timeframe.
